Job Description:

Sun Life Retail Advice & Solutions (RA&S) is one of the leading financial institutions in Canada that offers Canadians holistic advice and innovative solutions including insurance, wealth and health through a team of digitally-enabled and insights-driven human advisors. We are on an exciting journey to create exceptional digital experiences that delight retail Clients while integrating engagement with human advisors.

Reporting to the Director, Hub Owner, the Product Owner will execute on the strategy to create capabilities that will provide ease and convenience to Advisors, making it easier for them to do business with Clients, increase productivity and grow.

The Product Owner will work with their agile team to manage activities within delivery teams and will partner with Digital Business Technology & Solutions, SLFD, Client Experience Office (CXO) and other Sun Life business units / functions as needed.

Key responsibilities:

Journey experience vision and strategy

  • Support Journey Owners in the design of clear journey experience vision aligned to SLFD business strategy and outcomes

  • Develop and deliver roadmaps that are aligned to target journey maps and story maps

  • Be accountable for journey objectives and key results (OKRs)

Digital experience and capability development

  • Build and deploy compelling Advisor facing features and capabilities

  • Continuously monitor and measure end-user behaviours and usage of the product to inform ongoing refinement of product roadmap and feature pipeline

  • Integrate usability studies and research into product requirements to enhance user satisfaction and ensure user-driven design. Engage with Advisors during the requirements life cycle.

  • Maximize the value produced by agile team by ensuring the digital feature meets the users’ needs and aligns to journey vision

Planning and execution

  • Work with the Director, Hub Owner to translate product vision into a strategic yet pragmatic roadmap that feeds into a continuously prioritized backlog(s)

  • Solve complex issues through in-depth research, identifying options and evaluating to recommend a proposed approach

  • Collaborate with the agile delivery team and ensure the product delivers as intended and dynamically adjusting plans to deliver on OKRs

  • Review QA test plans to align with acceptance criteria, facilitate testing and review of early builds for adherence to functional requirements

  • Support business validation to ensure that features work as designed and ensure data integrity.

  • Partner with SLFD Change Management to develop and execute on adoption strategy to drive Advisor usage of digital tools and capabilities

  • Proactively identify potential issues and risks to ensure goals are achieved

  • Ensure product addresses applicable legal, compliance regulatory and internal policy requirements

Stakeholder management

  • Identify areas of the business affected by product delivery and determine appropriate approach to engage with relevant stakeholders

  • Escalate and keep stakeholders informed of key issues, risks and interdependencies

  • Collaborate with key partners including Advisors, field management, Digital Business Technology & Solutions, CXO and other business units and functions (e.g., legal, compliance, risk)

  • Build and manage relationships with key partners, including effectively engaging executives

Communication and relationship management

  • Proactively stay in touch with internal partners to maintain an understanding of new developments in their areas and identify opportunities for collaboration

  • Tailor both written and verbal communication based on audience and situation to maximize buy-in and establish productive working relationships

Experience, skills and behaviours:

  • 5+ years of relevant agile digital delivery experience

  • Knowledge of retail distribution, wealth and /or insurance space,

  • Proven track record of implementation experience of systems or digital capabilities in financial services

  • Strong business acumen and foundational quantitative skills

  • Demonstrate knowledge of technology platforms and / or technical proficiency

  • Product Owner Certification

  • Post Secondary Degree in Business or related field

  • Strong knowledge of user-centered design principles

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
