Working at CBC:

At the CBC, we all have a story to tell. What’s yours?

If you share our passion for Canadian storytelling and you wish to help us engage with individuals and communities across our various digital platforms, this is where you’ll want to be!

Every day, you will have an opportunity to shape the way in which Canadians see themselves reflected in our digital services. Your work will have a direct impact on how millions of Canadians from various communities  connect with our products, with one another, and with the diverse voices that make our country so unique.

You will have the opportunity to play a part in enlightening and entertaining Canadians through our innovative work in building the mediums that deliver our content. We are an innovative hub, where the talented professionals we work with are respected and valued for their contributions. Our product teams are vibrant and our work culture strives to achieve the highest standards of diversity and inclusion. We believe that hiring people with different career paths and backgrounds is fundamental in our shared success and in building healthy and highly performant teams. When you join our mission, you are not only shaping the vision of the CBC, but the future of our country.

Why is this role important?

You'll lead the product strategy for CBC’s messaging products and the delivery of messaging programs. You’ll manage the team’s backlog and drive the evolution of key supporting platforms like the Newsletter Subscription Centre and the underlying technologies that support the email program.

You will manage the systems powering CBC’s established outbound messaging (email newsletters, push notifications) and nurture experiments using other messaging services (WhatsApp, SMS, others). This includes owning the product roadmap and ensuring alignment with the broader digital strategy.

You'll collaborate closely with a wide range of partners, including product teams, content units, Customer Experience, Marketing, and third-party vendors, managing the operational aspects of agile product development.

Here’s why we should work together:

Our digital teams’ values - collaboration, inclusion, learning, and continuous improvement - embody who we are as a people-focused, digital-forward employer. We follow Agile principles and the empowered product operating model. Our dedicated managers work closely with every individual to ensure we are leveraging their strengths, championing their ideas and supporting their pursuit of new skills and their desired career progression.

Here at CBC Digital Strategy & Products, your well being is critical to our success.  It is essential that work be a safe space where our employees are able to share their authentic selves with one another and to push each other to challenge conventions.

Perks you can look forward to:

  • Work with purpose and impact at scale

  • Flexible work schedules, allowing you to find balance for yourself, your family and your work;

  • A hybrid environment you can enjoy the benefits of work from home and in-office collaboration

  • Competitive total rewards package including robust health benefits and best-in-class defined benefits pension plan;

  • Dedicated time for innovation, learning and development; wherever your interests lie;

  • Opportunities to work with emerging technology;

  • Opportunities for continued learning and professional development;

  • Opportunities to become a member of our Employee Resource Groups;

  • Pair programming and mentorship opportunities, where you can learn from the best in the industry and help coach new talent;

  • A creative and dynamic work environment, where your ideas and contributions can be heard, valued and respected;

  • A supportive management team committed to upholding the highest standards of diversity and inclusivity;

  • An environment which favors experimentation and an iterative approach in order to achieve the highest form of technical innovation.

Position Overview

This is a hybrid position with a mix of in-office and remote work.

As the Product Manager for Messaging, you will advocate for a team dedicated to distributing content that speaks to all Canadians. As the sole product lead for the team, you will seamlessly handle both Product Manager (strategy/discovery) and Product Owner (tactical/execution) functions. You will act as a bridge between complex technical systems and strategic audience experiences, expertly translating technical constraints for non-technical stakeholders and vice versa.

You are or wish to be a user-obsessed, data driven Product Manager. You possess a high level of comfort working on technical products, a proven work methodology and established leadership experience. You have solid technical acumen and deep empathy with your end users.

If you want the chance to bring a vision to life, to take ideas from concept and design to development and launch, it’s time to join this team.

Key Areas of Impact

  • Strategic leadership: You will own the product roadmap and ensure alignment with CBC’s broader digital strategy. You will ensure the product team understands the strategy and feels a sense of ownership over their contributions.

  • Evangelism: You will be an evangelist for the build, measure, and learn cycle, frequently organizing and presenting the team’s findings and successes. You will champion and facilitate the use of user testing and audience feedback throughout product development.

  • Agile product development: You will create and manage the team’s product backlog, epics, and user stories to deliver maximum value towards CBC’s priorities and objectives. This includes generating tickets and writing user stories that accurately reflect partner and user needs.

  • Vendor selection and implementation: In 2026-27, you will lead a procurement process to select a multi-channel marketing platform for CBC Radio-Canada, with support from internal partners, senior management, and external consultants. Following a successful contract negotiation, you will lead the Messaging team in migrating to the chosen platform, and collaborate with Learning & Development to train internal users of the platform.

  • Risk management & problem solving: You’ll identify and brainstorm solutions for product risks related to value, viability, usability (in collaboration with UX Design and Research), and feasibility (with the Technical Lead). You will actively remove obstacles that could impede product priorities, goals, or vision.

  • Release oversight & quality assurance: You will oversee and monitor releases, ensuring quality validation with the team. You’ll monitor product releases and operations to maintain consistent quality of service for CBC users, which includes fielding questions and investigating support issues to determine necessary next steps and feature evolutions.

  • Communication: You’ll consistently communicate delivery progress clearly and consistently to relevant stakeholders.

  • Measurement: You will measure and track value of delivered work, including adoption and use of new features and progress on objectives and key results.

What You Bring

Versatile product expertise: You may come from a technical, marketing, or communications background; what matters is your demonstrated experience scoping, planning, and delivering engaging audience experiences. You're adept at delivering complex digital products with an Agile mindset.

Agile methodologies: Expertise in the practical application of Agile methodologies, with specific experience in Scrum and Kanban. You're comfortable transforming requirements into digestible elements to facilitate continuous delivery.

Continuous improvement: Experience with continuous improvement and iterative development, including test-driven approaches, to identify obstacles and enhance product delivery and processes.

Outcome-focused approach: A proven ability to actively foster an outcome-focused approach, including assessing and communicating trade-offs and benefits.

Communication & collaboration: An excellent communicator who works well with others, whether one-on-one with direct team members, digital colleagues at-large, or vendor leads. You have experience facilitating meaningful product and team discussions, and demonstrate strong emotional intelligence.

Quality & accessibility: Past success reviewing and assessing services and tools related to product activities, alongside experience with accessibility best practices.

Vendor management: You have experience navigating procurement projects for technology products. You are comfortable running an RFP process, managing vendor negotiations, and leading the subsequent migration to new systems.

Mindset & values: Forward-looking, curious, eager, self-aware, self-directed, and empathetic. You have enthusiasm and passion for all forms of media, and a strong commitment to reflecting the CBC community and a diverse, contemporary Canada.
