About Opendoor

At Opendoor our mission is to tilt the world in favor of homeowners and those who aim to become one. Homeownership matters. It's how people build wealth, stability, and community. It's how families put down roots, how neighborhoods strengthen, how the future gets built. We're building the modern system of homeownership giving people the freedom to buy and sell on their own terms. We’ve built an end-to-end online experience that has already helped thousands of people and we’re just getting started.

About the role

We're looking for a designer to own a product experience.

You'll be embedded in a product pod and operate like the founding designer of your product. You define what an excellent experience feels and looks like.

We are building for the new world. Anyone can ship. Your superpowers are judgement and empathy, you’ll use them to define what to build, why it matters, and how to make it feel seamless to the person using it. That's the job.

What you'll do

  • You'll work across the full arc of a product from understanding the user problem to shipping something real and iterating on it. You won't hand off a spec and disappear. You'll stay in it. You'll talk to users, push back when something isn't right, and follow through until the experience is what it should be.
  • You'll work side by side with a PM and Engineers. Not waiting for direction but defining it together with your team. You're empowered to reach into the PM role to sharpen a problem definition, or into the eng role to fine tune an experience.
  • You'll also be comfortable with ambiguity. Priorities shift. Scope changes. The work isn't predictable.

This is not

  • A place where you work on one thing for three months
  • A large team with specialized tracks, there's no separate animation designer and design system designer
  • A place where you hand off designs and move on.

If any of this sounds like you or who you want to be, please apply

  • You see yourself as a generalist with a particular interest
  • You enjoy playing with new tools and building your own
  • You want to own product decisions
  • You’re not precious about your work

Location
This role is based in one of our offices, in-person four days per week. We're looking for candidates who are enthusiastic about an in-office culture; people who want to build alongside their teammates, not from a distance.
