PagerDuty seeks a Principal Product Designer (People Manager) to join our diverse, customer-focused team! In this role, you will report to our Head of Product Design and Research and lead and mentor a team of designers while also contributing hands-on design work when needed. You will partner closely with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to drive the design direction for critical projects on our roadmap. This is an exciting opportunity to be a player/coach to shape the future of digital operations management and significantly impact how organizations handle critical incidents and time-sensitive work. The ideal candidate is a master of the design craft with strong leadership skills and a passion for solving complex problems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and mentor a team of product designers, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Drive and lead projects and initiatives that have a critical and direct impact on the company's direction. 
  • Contribute to the design system, creating new patterns and supporting documentation 
  • Work with your design partners to translate complex operational concepts and data into clear, actionable, and visually appealing user interfaces.
  • Lead product delivery successfully, managing cross-functional responsibilities.
  • Effectively communicates business updates and initiatives to the team, ensuring understanding of departmental decisions. 
  • Sets operational objectives, delegates effectively, and utilizes resources creatively to meet schedule goals. 
  • Represent the UX team in customer meetings, workshops, conferences, and other external events.
  • Identifies talent needs, shapes requisitions, and actively participates in recruiting efforts.
  • Understand the balance between planning out work and just getting things done, between getting your hands dirty and getting out of the team’s way.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years of professional experience in UX Design, UX Research, or a similar role with a design-led, high-growth, SaaS business.
  • Effectively communicates design rationale and uses storytelling techniques with partners, stakeholders, and direct reports.
  • Expert knowledge of UX processes, design systems, and prototyping tools.
  • Strong understanding of technical implications of design decisions.
  • Ability to focus on engagement and retention of a team through regular 1-1s and effective career conversations. 
  • Capability to assess talent, actively participate in recruitment, and contribute to strategic hiring efforts.
  • Proven track record of leading design teams and mentoring designers.
  • You can still design if needed (though that won’t be the primary function of this role).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field, or equivalent degree or experience. 
  • Experience in designing complex enterprise software products.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and drive consensus.
  • Experience with agile development methodologies.
  • Passion for staying current with industry trends and best practices.

The base salary range for this position is 134,000 - 200,000 CAD. This role may also be eligible for bonus, commission, equity, and/or benefits.

Our base salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range, which is subject to change based on primary work location, reflects the minimum and maximum base salary we expect to pay newly hired employees for the position. Within the range, we determine pay for an individual based on a number of factors including market location, job-related knowledge, skills/competencies and experience.
