Who you are:

We are always looking for amazing talent who can contribute to our growth and deliver results! Geotab is seeking a Principal Product Designer who will operate as a lead individual contributor on the most complex, strategic, and high-impact product areas, directly influencing key outcomes for the organization. If you love technology, and are keen to join an industry leader — we would love to hear from you!

What you'll do:

As a Principal Product Designer your key area of responsibility will be defining and driving the design strategy for major product initiatives, ensuring alignment with overall business goals, and tackling complex, ambiguous design challenges with a high degree of autonomy. You will need to work closely with senior stakeholders across product management, engineering, research, marketing, and other relevant functions, as well as mentoring and guiding other designers.

To be successful in this role you will be a strategic thinker and hands-on design expert who can achieve influence through vision, expertise, and collaboration, rather than direct people management. In addition, the successful candidate will have strong analytical skills and the ability to synthesize complex information from various sources (user research, market analysis, data) to inform strategic design decisions, while managing multiple dependencies in a complex SaaS environment.

How you'll make an impact:
  • Operate as a lead individual contributor on the most complex, strategic, and high-impact product areas, directly influencing key outcomes for the organization by advocating for clear, understandable, and user-centered design solutions at scale.

  • Define and drive significant portions of the design strategy for major product initiatives, ensuring alignment with overall business goals and market opportunities, with a focus on how strategic design choices contribute to clarity and ease of use for millions of users in a complex product ecosystem.

  • Tackle and resolve the most challenging, unstructured problems with many dependencies, translating ambiguity into clear design strategies and actionable plans that prioritize user comprehension and efficient interaction.

  • Set architectural direction for the broader organization's user experiences and help evolve design systems and frameworks towards it, ensuring that the underlying structure supports clarity, consistency, and accessibility across the platform.

  • Drive the end-to-end design process for complex initiatives, from initial concept and research synthesis through detailed design and collaboration on implementation, often acting as the primary design owner for critical areas and setting a standard for high-quality, understandable user experiences.

  • Possess deep context of the entire product and stakeholder ecosystem, industry, and competition, using this understanding to advocate for design solutions that effectively communicate value and functionality to diverse user segments.

  • Build strong, trusted relationships with senior stakeholders across product management, engineering, research, marketing, and other relevant functions, influencing decisions and driving alignment through compelling communication, logical rationale, and a clear design vision that champions user understanding.

  • Represent design effectively in high-level strategic discussions and cross-functional planning, ensuring that the user perspective and the importance of clear, usable design are central to strategic decision-making.

  • Improve the Product Design organization by identifying ways to raise the level of competency across the team, contributing to design frameworks, processes, or governance that enhance the clarity and impact of the team's work.

  • Actively mentor and guide other designers (Senior, Mid-level, and Lead) on strategic thinking, complex problem-solving, technical considerations, and elevating their craft, fostering a design culture that values clarity, rigor, and user-centered outcomes.

  • Serve as a thought leader both inside and outside of the organization, moving the industry forward by introducing novel design techniques and approaches that contribute to creating more understandable, accessible, and effective SaaS products.

What you'll bring to the role:
  • 12+ years of extensive experience in product design with a strong portfolio demonstrating strategic leadership, complex problem-solving, and tangible impact on product and business outcomes in a complex SaaS environment.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as HCI/UX, Social Science, Psychology, Research, Design Communication, or other related fields.

  • Expert level proficiency across all core Product Design competency areas, including UX research, interaction design, and visual design, with the ability to make high-quality, hands-on contributions.

  • Deep knowledge of the product ecosystem, industry, and competition relevant to Telematics.

  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders through expertise, communication, and collaboration without direct authority, alongside experience mentoring and guiding mid-to-lead level designers.

  • Demonstrable proficiency in crafting, refining, implementing, and communicating design vision and strategy across an organization to deliver great customer experiences.

If you got this far, we hope you're feeling excited about this role! Even if you don't feel you meet every single requirement, we still encourage you to apply.
