Position Overview

The Principal Design Program Manager will support the Design Operations team within the Architecture, Engineering & Construction (AEC) Solutions division. This role involves leading and managing complex design programs that have a significant business impact. The Principal Design Program Manager will work closely with cross-functional teams, including design, product, and engineering, to deliver on strategic objectives that enhance customer experiences. This position provides an opportunity for professional growth by driving large-scale, multidisciplinary initiatives from conception to completion, helping to develop valuable organizational skills. Offering a unique balance between autonomy and support, this role is fully empowered to drive the program while having a team of Design Program Managers to lean on for practice excellence and support.  The role is part of a supportive team environment that values collaboration, communication, and continuous improvement.

This position reports to the Chief of Staff & Director of Operations, AEC. Preference for candidates located in Toronto, Canada.

Responsibilities

Program/Project Management

  • Establish and manage specific programs or projects, whether they have a distinct beginning and end or span across many years

  • Develop and maintain project plans and schedules

  • Assist team members in planning, estimating, and controlling tasks

  • Perform critical path analysis to mitigate risks and identify alternative solutions

  • Monitor programs to ensure completion within defined schedules, budgets, and quality parameters

  • Prepare and distribute various status reports to executive and functional management

Stakeholder Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborate effectively with stakeholders to ensure satisfaction with program management services and deliverables

  • Maintain strong relationships and communication channels

  • Serve as an internal spokesperson for the programs, planning and delivering internal and external communications to the appropriate audience

  • Ensure clear and consistent information distribution and define program content for accurate messaging

Program Evaluation and Improvement

  • Analyze program metrics and trends to evaluate success and plan action

  • Enhance team efficiency and efficacy by aligning with other Design Program Managers and streamlining operations

Minimum Qualifications

  • 8+ years of project management experience in a dynamic, cross-functional environment

  • Ability to anticipate, understand and actively mitigate project risks

  • Strong writing, reporting, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to travel as needed

  • Advanced expert role, requiring deep subject-matter knowledge and sound business acumen to advise leaders

  • For jobs at this level, knowledge of the business starts to become as important as subject-matter knowledge

  • Incumbents translate specialized subject-matter requirements into business needs/requirements

  • Require depth of specialized expertise to interpret internal/external business issues and recommend best practices to address them

  • Solve complex problems that require in-depth evaluation of variable factors by taking a broad perspective to identify the best approach and innovative solutions

  • Work independently, with close guidance in only the most complex or unusual situations

  • Adapt communication style to persuade various stakeholders across the business and frequently interact with senior leaders to provide advice and SME

  • May lead functional teams or programs within own function (or closely related functions)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a matrixed UX organization

  • Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification

  • Proficiency in Airtable, Miro, Microsoft Project, relevant AI tools

  • Proficiency in Human Centered Design methods
