The Role: Defining Low-Code Engineering Excellence
The Lead Low-Code Engineer will be the principal technical leader responsible for defining the architectural standards, development best practices, and governance for all low-code components within our reusable solutions. You will guide the team of Senior Low-Code Engineers, ensuring that the OutSystems platform is used to its fullest potential to deliver scalable, secure, and highly integrated enterprise applications.
Key Responsibilities
1. Low-Code Architecture & Governance (Primary Focus)
Define Low-Code Architecture: Establish and enforce the reference architecture for all solutions built on the OutSystems platform, prioritizing modularity, scalability, security, and performance (e.g., component reuse, data modeling, environment strategy).
Standardization: Develop and maintain the low-code best practice guide for the team, covering areas like code structure, application lifecycle management (ALM), defensive programming, and integration security.
Quality & ALM: Oversee the team’s use of OutSystems LifeTime, internal CI/CD pipelines, and testing frameworks to ensure rapid, reliable, and high-quality deployment of packaged solutions.
Integration Strategy: Define the patterns for robust and secure integration between the OutSystems low-code applications and external services, specifically the AI Agent APIs and other enterprise systems.
2. Technical Leadership & Mentorship
Hands-On Leadership: Act as the technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) for complex OutSystems issues, personally leading the development of critical architectural components and accelerators.
Mentorship & Review: Conduct comprehensive low-code code reviews, mentor Senior Engineers, and drive continuous improvement in the team’s technical skills and productivity.
Tooling: Research and recommend advanced OutSystems features, external integrations, and development tools to maximize the efficiency of the solutions factory.
3. Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with the Lead AI Engineer and Lead Front-End Engineer to ensure seamless and efficient integration between the user experience layer, the low-code business logic, and the core AI agent back-ends.
Collaborate with the Director of Solutions to align low-code technical strategy with the overall solutions roadmap and platform capabilities.
Required Skills & Experience
Technical Expertise (The Must-Haves)
OutSystems Platform Mastery: 7+ years of hands-on, expert-level experience with the OutSystems platform, including significant time in a Lead, Principal, or Architect role designing and deploying large-scale, mission-critical enterprise applications.
Architectural Expertise: Proven ability to define and implement complex, scalable low-code architectures, including multi-layer application models, environment management, and data separation strategies.
Integration and Extensibility: Deep knowledge of building robust integrations (consuming/exposing REST/SOAP APIs) and experience with platform extensibility (using C# or Java) when required.
Performance Tuning: Expertise in diagnosing and optimizing OutSystems application performance, including server-side logic, data queries, and deployment architecture.
Desirable Expertise (A Strong Plus)
AI Integration Patterns: Experience designing integration patterns (e.g., asynchronous messaging, event queues, secure APIs) specifically for communicating with AI services or LLM APIs.
Cloud Experience: Familiarity with deploying and managing OutSystems environments on major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
Leadership & Professional Attributes
Architectural Vision: Proven ability to translate strategic goals into clear, executable technical architecture roadmaps.
Team Leadership: Demonstrated success in leading, motivating, and upskilling technical teams, driving both quality and speed.
Governance Mindset: Strong passion for establishing and enforcing technical standards and best practices to ensure long-term stability and maintainability of solutions.
