Consultant, Field Service Engineering for post-sales engineering services. This will include design and deployment for North America based Ciena customers. Activities include assisting with consulting, design, audits, and operations (Layer 2/3 engineering and provisioning, network reconfiguration and migrations).
Job position requirement is primarily dayshift based, with 2nd/3rd shifts involvement for engineering procedure execution and work implementation on live customer networks.
Ideal candidate will provide leadership, mentoring and coaching internally to peers on various products (39xx, 51xx, 81xx).
Job Description
- Takes direction from the Ciena Senior Manager of Network Engineering.
- Interfaces with the following functional groups on a day-to-day basis; Sales Engineers (SE), Project Managers (PM), Technical Support, Field Service Engineers, Field Project Engineers, Service Partners, Product Line Management (PLM).
- Responsible for creating complex step by step engineering method of procedure to migrate, reconfigure and modernize customers networks. Drive these changes remotely during off hours.
- Stays abreast of new product engineering via online training modules.
- Accurately track project status and communicate information accordingly.
- Performs assignments within schedule, following established processes and adhering to customer specific requirements and engineering guidelines.
- Proactively pursues methods or solutions that will improve the customer network and/or engineering processes.
- Shares knowledge with the engineering team by mentoring individuals and holding internal training sessions.
- Ensures newfound knowledge is captured with appropriate tools and updates process accordingly.
- Receives project inputs from the SE and/or customer and is responsible for validating and creating high level and low-level designs that contains all the required settings and configurations needed to properly provision and deploy Ciena’s equipment.
- Act as a key technical interface to the customer and project engineers as required.
- Leads the turn-up and testing of various Ciena product lines in both greenfield and In-Service Deployment environments.
- Responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, and debugging complex technical issues that occur during these activities.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
