Job Description:

Role Summary

The Shop Millwright / Machinist is a licensed tradesperson responsible for the reliability and performance of decorator inker systems. This role focuses on rebuilding, repairing, installing, troubleshooting, and continuously improving inkers while supporting machining, welding, fabrication, rigging, and maintenance activities throughout the can-making facility. The position is primarily shop-based and is not responsible for operating production lines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Rebuild, inspect, repair, and test inker assemblies for all decorating lines.
  • Install, replace, align, and commission inkers and related components.
  • Troubleshoot inker and print-quality issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Perform machining, welding, fabrication, rigging, and precision mechanical work.
  • Operate lathes, milling machines, drill presses, grinders, and precision measuring equipment.
  • Support PM days, shutdowns, overhauls, and maintenance projects, particularly on decorators and inkers.
  • Document completed work in the CMMS and support spare-parts management.
  • Identify opportunities to improve reliability, reduce downtime, and extend component life.
  • Maintain high standards of safety, housekeeping, and workmanship.
Safety & Compliance (Non-Negotiable)
  • Follow all safety procedures and safe work practices.
  • Apply Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and verify zero energy before starting work.
  • Use required PPE and maintain all guarding and safety devices.
  • Safely operate shop equipment, cranes, hoists, and welding equipment.
  • Report hazards, near misses, and unsafe conditions immediately.
Qualifications
  • Licensed Industrial Millwright (433A) and/or Licensed Machinist (429A), or equivalent recognized certification.
  • Minimum 5 years of industrial maintenance, machining, or skilled trades experience in manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of bearings, shafts, gearboxes, drives, lubrication systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, and alignment.
  • Experience operating machine shop equipment and precision measuring instruments.
  • Proven welding, fabrication, machining, and rigging experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and technical documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and experience with CMMS systems.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, reliability, and continuous improvement.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in metal packaging, can making, decorating, printing, or other high-speed manufacturing environments.
  • Experience rebuilding and maintaining decorator inkers, rollers, fountains, and related components.
  • Knowledge of reliability-centered maintenance, precision rebuilds, and root cause analysis.
