Job Responsibilities:

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Manufacturing Engineering - Junior will support the design, improvement and launch of assembly processes while gaining exposure to tooling, robotics, automation, machine vision, AI enabled analytics and digital manufacturing. Work alongside experienced engineers, take on real projects with coaching and see ideas move from concept to production. This is a replacement position.
Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Engineering Degree/Diploma in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering, or Trades Certification with equivalent relevant experience in Assembly, Tooling, and Design.

  • 6 months to 1 year of relevant experience (co-op, internship, or practical plant experience counts)

  • Basic ability to read engineering drawings and GD&T. CAD or AutoCAD exposure is an asset.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude, a hands-on mindset and comfort working around equipment, tooling and fixtures.

  • Practical problem solving, curiosity and willingness to ask questions, test ideas and learn from results.

  • Strong organization and follow-through in a fast-paced environment.

  • Curiosity about new technology. Exposure to AI, data analytics, programming, automation, robotics, machine vision, IoT or Industry 4.0 is an asset, not a requirement.

  • Clear communication and the ability to work with technical, operations and cross-functional teams.

  • Flexibility for occasional off-shift work, overtime or travel during critical launches or installations.

  • Ability to uphold confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Ability to work overtime to meet customer needs.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Handles small scale projects from inception to completion (timing, concept, feasibility, design, construction, try-out, launch, final buy-off (PPAP and run at rate), prototype programs, and engineering changes) with continuous follow-up by leadership.

  • Conducts appropriate Manpower efficiency studies – through time and motion studies or standard data (MOST is the Modatek standard). Line balancing manpower, machine charts and analysis 

  • Prepare reports, charts and other documentation required for engineering records and projects

  • Works with all departments and customers to design solutions that improve production efficiency, ergonomics, safety and maintenance related issues

  • Supports continuous improvement initiatives

  • Assists in developing material handling logistics (i.e.  Aisle layout, bin placement, dunnage assists, etc.)

  • Reviews, monitors and coordinates tooling design, building, approval process and capital budgets

  • Supervises equipment relocation and installation to Modatek

  • Assists in setting up preventative maintenance program for new equipment

  • Assists in resolving quality concerns

  • Reviews, co-ordinates and implements all customer approved engineering changes, including part level communication updates, physical part update, process sheet update, physical tooling change, etc.

  • Knows and understands process documentation and customer specific requirements as they relate to this job function

  • Follows and complies with all Operational Procedures and Policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook, Quality and Environment programs (i.e., IATF16949, ISO14001)

  • Understands, promote and live by Magna’s philosophies and Employee Charter
