Job Description:

Sun Life is looking for a manager who is excited to apply their skills to the rapidly developing area of sustainability reporting and disclosures. The Manager, Sustainability Reporting will support the development Sun Life’s annual Sustainability Report, the Public Accountability Statement, and our digital environments, aligned with established standards such as GRI. In addition, they will support reporting against major frameworks (e.g., CDP), and manage Sun Life’s stakeholder-focused materiality assessment. The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, engaging with leaders across Sun Life to develop high-quality disclosures and continuously enhance reporting practices to meet stakeholder expectations.

What will you do?

  • Manage the development of public reporting against key standards and frameworks (e.g., GRI, SDGs, CDP) as part of Sun Life’s annual sustainability reporting process

  • Manage the content collection and content development processes for the annual Sustainability Report

  • Manage the development of the annual Public Accountability Statement

  • Proactively identify opportunities to enhance sustainability reporting practices to meet growing requirements and address any gaps in current disclosures

  • Manage content for digital properties including sunlife.com and sunlife.ca

  • Manage Sun Life’s stakeholder-focused materiality assessment, including engagement with subject matter experts across the business and external stakeholders

  • Work collaboratively to ensure reported information addresses the needs of sustainability rankings, analysts, and ESG rating agencies, where possible

  • Support the development of internal presentations to senior management and the Board of Directors

*** This is a fixed term role for 14-16 months ***

What do you need to succeed?

  • Minimum 3-5 years relevant business experience ideally within insurance, asset management or other financial services; experience in/or knowledge of Sun Life’s business is an asset

  • Experience in corporate sustainability reporting strongly preferred

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to successfully work with a variety of team members and function in a dynamic environment

  • Strong project management skills including multitasking, prioritization and time management

  • Results-oriented individual and an innovative, lateral thinker

  • Experience managing people

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail toward processes and content, and commitment to meeting reporting deadlines

  • Self-motivated, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and tight deadlines, both independently and as part of a team

  • Experience working in a complex matrix organization and managing key stakeholders

  • Familiarity with existing and emerging ESG-related standards (e.g., GRI, SASB, SDGs, ISSB) is an asset

  • Familiarity with stakeholder-focused materiality assessments is an asset

  • Familiarity with ESG ratings and assessments frameworks (e.g., CDP, MSCI, Sustainalytics, ISS, S&P Global) is an asset

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
