Do you want to join a team that's dedicated to making risk management a competitive advantage at Capital One? We are looking to hire a Manager, Policy & Governance on our fast-moving, hard-working, and fun Legal, Compliance, and Risk Management (LC&R) team!
This newly-created role will report to the Canada Deputy Chief Risk Officer, and will support various governance and operational activities within the Legal, Compliance, and Risk Management teams. The right candidate is a results-driven relationship builder who possesses strong influencing and prioritization skills to ensure activities within the department are well-managed.
Responsibilities:

  • Lead key governance activities for the department, including (but not limited to): policy management, controls testing, department business continuity plan, and reporting;
  • Policy Management: as the Canada Business Area Contact (BAC), drive efficient management of policies for the department and ensure such policies adhere to Enterprise requirements;
  • Reporting: lead the coordination and review of various LC&R governance reports, including the development of applicable metrics and data visualization tools to enhance and automate the reporting process;
  • Process Improvement and Automation: identify, implement, and maintain efficient and sustainable process improvements and automation within the department's operational processes while ensuring adherence to Enterprise policies and standards;
  • Support to the LC&R Leadership Team (as assigned): participate in, lead, and/or execute activities relating to the department's strategic objectives, initiatives, events and Town Halls. Undertake and complete a variety of initiatives with minimal guidance and direction, tracking and overseeing deliverables to completion;
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to influence and drive timely results; and
  • Keep current on compliance and risk management and regulatory trends, including best practices and guidelines issued by applicable regulatory bodies and the industry, and identify emerging regulatory risks.


The right candidate will have:

  • A solid understanding of risk management and governance principles and familiarity with the processes and controls that govern these activities (i.e., three lines of defense model and risk framework principles).
  • Possess an entrepreneurial mindset, demonstrate curiosity, resourcefulness and critical thinking.
  • A proactive and outside-the-box thinker who can assess and adopt a risk-based approach in making recommendations to implement practical and sustainable policies and procedures.
  • The ability to distill complex information into a clear and concise narrative.
  • Superior writing and editing skills with the ability to construct well-founded, clear, and concise analyses and recommendations.
  • The ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple projects and deliverables.
  • Solid analytical, research, and investigative skills (e.g. researching laws/regulations, internal policies and procedures, etc.).
  • A proven track record in driving high quality and timely results.
  • The ability to work autonomously in a dynamically changing environment.
  • Demonstrated business maturity with the ability to effectively communicate and influence stakeholders within all levels of the organization, establish and maintain positive relationships.
  • Solid interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Exercises strong judgment and knows when to escalate with appropriate stakeholders before issues arise.
  • Strong problem-solving and conceptual thinking skills.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5+ years of experience in compliance or risk management in a regulated Canadian financial services organization, 3 of which must be in a governance function
  • Experience in preparing and writing business documents (i.e. presentations for leadership meetings or forums, briefing memos, and reports)
  • Experience in process and/or project management
  • Experience in creating and using data visualization tools (Tableau, QuickSight) to enhance and automate departmental reports


Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ year of experience using Google Suite of products (Slides, Docs, Sheets, Gmail, Forms, Drive, Sites)
  • Relevant certification or accreditation in Compliance, Risk Management, Legal, or other related fields
  • Strong leadership skills and capabilities
  • Familiarity of a credit card or other financial products' business, practices, and operations
  • Familiarity with applicable Canadian regulators (OSFI, OPC, FCAC) and regulations that apply to a credit card business or other financial products
