At Capital One, data is at the center of everything we do. Robust and effective Data Management provides the framework to ensure that Capital One's data is of the highest quality, and that our data processes and practices mitigate data risks across Capital One. As the Manager of Canada Data Retention & Protection team, you will lead a team that partners with groups across the company to design, build, manage and enhance our Data Retention and Protection processes and controls. This role offers a unique opportunity to combine your process and risk management expertise with your desire to develop knowledge and skills in data-driven technologies at Capital One.
The responsibilities include:

  • Inspire and empower a small team of associates, leading a culture of collaboration, continuous growth, and excellence in process performance
  • Design, develop and implement processes and controls that govern Canada's compliance to internal policies and procedures, and appropriate regulatory requirements related to the handling of sensitive data
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant data policies and procedures, and ensure documentation is up-to-date
  • Manage delivery of data processes by defining and implementing process improvement agendas
  • Regularly evaluate the efficiency of existing data management procedures and proactively propose improvements to achieve better business outcomes and enhance user experience
  • Apply various methods for process improvement (Visual Management, Lean, Six Sigma) to continually enhance operational effectiveness, identify the root cause of issues and manage risk
  • Lead stakeholder engagement efforts and utilize exceptional communication, teamwork and influence skills to foster team alignment and drive process success
  • Conduct and support regular risk governance activities on monthly, quarterly and annual cadence, including process level risk assessments, control assessments and testing, issue and event management, and audits
  • Manage Business Continuity Planning for applicable processes
  • Strategic planning, demonstrating the ability to set a vision, chart a path and execute with high impact


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least 5 years of experience working in process management, risk management or data roles
  • At least 5 years of experience working in a cross-functional environment, ensuring stakeholder expectations are managed effectively.
  • At least 2 years of experience leading a team


Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of experience designing, managing, and improving processes
  • Experience of using Lean Six Sigma methodologies to drive continuous improvement initiatives
  • Familiarity with cloud-based data environments would be an advantage
