The Manager, Investment Accounting will lead the high-quality, timely execution of monthly accounting and general ledger close activities, semi-annual financial reporting to Corporate Finance, statutory audits, and legal entity management for certain OMERS management entities.  The Manager will ensure the completeness and accuracy of financial records and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams across the enterprise, fostering a high-performing, engaged and supported team.

You will be responsible for:

  • Managing timelines, processes and deliverables, including the maintenance of appropriate internal controls, on a monthly, semi-annual, and annual basis to facilitate the accounting close cycle.

  • Reviewing monthly and year-end working papers and other supporting documentation to ensure proper accounting treatment in accordance with applicable agreements and accounting principles.

  • Overseeing the preparation of regulatory reporting and quarterly financial statements.

  • Reviewing quarterly and/or annual legal entity financial statements including notes and audit working papers, ensuring appropriate accounting, disclosure and corresponding tax requirements are met.

  • Reviewing invoices and intercompany account reconciliations and collaborating with other departments to investigate and resolve differences.

  • Supporting the preparation of notes to the OMERS consolidated financial statements related to G&A and investment expenses; as required.

  • Leading and developing a team of professional accountants, providing guidance and feedback to support their professional growth.

  • Developing collaborative relationships with key stakeholders, including business partners and internal and external auditors. Ensuring the appropriateness of documentation and processes to support stakeholder needs.

  • Continuous learning and understanding of OMERS’ investment strategy structures and transactions and technical accounting requirements; applying learnings to financial reporting and related deliverables.

  • Identifying opportunities for operational improvements and leveraging automation tools to continuously improve the control environment and efficiency of recurring processes.

  • Participating in opportunities to develop technical and leadership skills to advance the Investment Accounting team.

Required Skills & Experience: 

  • Professional Qualifications: 5+ years’ experience in a financial accounting role, applying reporting, accounting, and control skills preferably in a financial and shared services environment, including experience overseeing a team. Post-secondary degree in business, accounting, or finance with a CPA designation.

  • Technical Accounting & Financial Expertise: Understanding of ASPE and IFRS accounting standards, strong accounting acumen, advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills, and technical proficiency in Oracle.

  • Process Improvement & Operational Excellence: Strong problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to understand processes from start to finish, eagerness to identify and implement new processes for operational efficiency. Strong attention to detail when preparing and reviewing work, and an ability to see the bigger picture impacts. Ability to adapt to and support changes, and maintain a strong focus on results.

  • Communication & Stakeholder Effectiveness: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences. Ability to present clear perspectives while considering stakeholder needs and objectives.

  • Leadership & Team Development: Desire to develop a strong, collaborative team culture by leading accounting professionals toward business and individual development goals. 

  • Results Delivery & Execution: A strong sense of urgency and the ability to make sound decisions when faced with competing priorities and time pressures. A sense of urgency, optimism, and a desire to deliver excellence. A results-oriented approach, with the ability to set clear expectations, work within tight timelines, and manage challenging priorities.

  

This posting is for an existing vacancy.
The expected salary range for this position is $105,000 -155,000 per year.
