Job Description:

About the role:

Are you a creative, engaging, and driven communications professional who knows how to deliver impactful communications? As Manager, Corporate Communications, you’ll play a critical role supporting communications for the Client Experience Office and Canadian Operations. Reporting to the Director, Corporate Communications, this role requires an experienced communications leader with a strong understanding of how to tell complex stories to a variety of audiences and navigate efficiently across teams and stakeholders. This individual will have experience executing both employee communications and media relations.

This role is ideal for a strategic, creative communicator who thrives on translating complex subject matter into compelling narratives and enjoys partnering with leaders on high‑impact initiatives.

What will you do?

  • Develop and execute integrated communications strategies and plans that support the Client Experience Office (CXO) and Canadian Operations, translating business priorities into clear, compelling communications that drive understanding, engagement and action.
  • Serve as a trusted communications advisor to senior leaders and key business partners, providing strategic counsel, shaping narratives, and navigating issues.
  • Lead internal and external storytelling that brings the CXO and Operations priorities to life, while advancing Sun Life Canada’s business strategy.
  • Oversee the end-to-end execution of communications materials, ensuring high-quality deliverables while effectively managing approval processes, translation requirements and publishing.
  • Measure and evaluate communications effectiveness through metrics, reporting and insights, using data-driven recommendations to continuously improve outcomes and engagement. 
  • Monitor emerging issues, industry trends and the evolving media landscape, providing proactive counsel on risks, opportunities and external factors that may impact the business and organization.
  • Lead, coach and develop team members, fostering a collaborative, high-performing environment through ongoing feedback, mentorship, talent development and a commitment to continuous learning. 

What do you need to succeed?

  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in communications, public relations, or a related field.
  • Post-secondary education in related field (communications, journalism, public relations).
  • Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • A self-starter with a proven ability to translate complex topics into clear, engaging and visually compelling executive level materials.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the proven ability to influence and negotiate with others and interact with and provide advice and counsel to leaders and business partners on communications best practices.
  • Highly skilled storyteller with experience developing and managing robust plans and creative campaigns.
  • Experience in media relations, developing compelling narratives, creating news releases, media briefs and stories.
  • Strategic thinker who brings sound judgment and a proactive perspective to complex, high impact communications challenges.
  • Excellent project and time management skills, paired with a collaborative, self starter mindset, and the confidence to challenge conventional thinking and deliver results.
  • Experience tracking and analyzing effectiveness of communications campaigns and making recommendations to enhance current activities.

Preferred Skills:

  • Strong judgement and ability to navigate issues and/or crisis communications.
  • Previous financial services, insurance, and digital/technology experience.
  • Experience working for a public company and/or supporting executive communications.
  • Working knowledge and/or fluent in French.
  • Experience utilizing AI to develop communication strategies and materials.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
