The Associate Personal Banker will engage customers, assist with account openings, service requests, and promote banking products while adhering to policies and regulations.

The Manager, Claims legal counsel will report to the Director, Claims Legal Counsel for Ontario, Atlantic, and Western Regions. You will be a key member of the leadership team, responsible for providing legal services to Claims Operations, both directly and through managing in-house legal resources. Collaborating with stakeholders, you will ensure initiatives align with the objectives and strategic orientations of the Claims Vice-presidency. You will develop and maintain expertise in the Property and Casualty Insurance Industry and Desjardins General Insurance Group, working closely with your Claims Operations and Legal Counsel Management Committee colleagues. Your effective people management, coaching, and mentoring skills will be crucial. You will demonstrate mental agility, sound judgment, and diplomacy in interactions. Excelling at organizing and prioritizing tasks at both strategic and tactical levels, you will balance competing priorities. With a strong sense of personal accountability and independent discretion, you will take charge in responding to situations within the department, carefully evaluating priorities and risks before making decisions. More specifically, you will be required to:

  • Implement strategies that foster positive change management, skills development, employee engagement, talent attraction and retention, and diversity, aligned with company values and client needs.

  • Contribute to claims and legal defence files to improve claims control and optimize expenses, adhering to provincial regulations.

  • Work closely with colleagues and stakeholders to convey a unified message and ensure consistent decision-making within the Claims Legal Counsel Team.

  • Track metrics to confirm results and manage performance, aiming to achieve team objectives.

  • Incorporate industry best practices into operational procedures and ensure compliance.

  • Oversee the implementation and follow-up of the yearly action plan, aligning with company strategic orientations and administrative units to meet key metrics and develop lawyers' skills.

  • Participate in leadership meetings and specialized committees, providing advisory and decision-making input.

  • Stay informed about legislative changes, implement necessary adjustments, and advise management accordingly.

What you bring to the table

  • Bachelor's degree in Juris doctor, Laws or in a related field 

  • A minimum of ten years of relevant experience, including four years experience in a management role

  • Please note that other combinations of qualifications and relevant experience may be considered

  • Experience in people management, coaching and mentoring

  • Legal experience, including managing complex files

  • Experience in Property & Casualty legal claims 

  • Advanced proficiency of English due to the nature of the duties or work tools or because the position involves interactions with English-speaking partners, members and/or clients

  • Available for travel between Aurora and Mississauga offices
