Job Description

Position Summary:

The Manager, Accounting Operations, will be a key contributor to BWS’s growth and will report to our Director, Investment Accounting.  The role is based in Brookfield’s Toronto office at Brookfield Place.

In this newly created role you will own the operational aspect of accounting for a broad range of financial assets including public and private securities, private loans, mortgage loans, and investment funds in a variety of investment structures, sourced from multiple systems.

You will have the opportunity to design and improve upon routine exercises, and to lead an analyst as you work together with several servicing teams to ultimately deliver complete and accurate financial information for further downstream stakeholders.  You will also often interact with auditors, and outsourced service providers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversight ensuring data integrity for transactional, and security information for $150B+ Investments portfolio.

  • Identify opportunities to enhance the efficiency of reporting processes, controls and support implementation of improvements.

  • Review reconciliations, actively resolving breaks between systems.

  • Oversee cash applications to ensure transactions are completely and accurately recorded.

  • Scope, consolidate, upload, and reconcile updated cashflow projections into systems.

  • Maintain and producing supporting documentation for internal controls and substantive testing as part of quarterly reviews, annual year-end audit, and SOx compliance.

  • Support new NAIC US regulatory requirements (National Association of Insurance Commissioners).

  • Ad-hoc requests as needed, and other special duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Excellent skillset in Microsoft Office Excel, data query-based tools such as Power Query.

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, or other relevant fields is required.

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience; CFA/CAIA/FRM/CPA designation is preferred.

  • Working Experience using Clearwater Analytics, Wall Street Office, Aladdin Enterprise is an asset.

  • Thorough and meticulous with extreme focus on details.

  • Highly organized and able to work in a dynamic, complex and fast-paced environment.

  • Adaptable to manage changing priorities and deadlines.

  • Superior communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.

  • Proven continuous process improvement mindset and positive team attitude.

  • Insurance sector experience and knowledge of insurance requirements is an asset.

  • High degree of professional ethics and integrity.

Salary Range: $120,000 - $130,000 CAD
