Job Responsibilities:

JOB SUMMARY:

The IT Intern at Magna Engineered Glass supports key technology initiatives across the organization, with a primary focus on Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), hardware support, and plant IT operations. This role helps ensure IT continuity, improves system reliability, and contributes to the quality, speed, and effectiveness of application development and other IT-driven projects.

The intern will gain hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment while supporting both technical and operational needs.

This role is intended to be part time during the winter with the possibility to turn into a full-time summer internship in summer 2027.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide MES support, including troubleshooting system issues, Python/HTML development, and label creation.
  • Assist with hardware commissioning and decommissioning, including setup, configuration, and asset tracking.
  • Support MES-related projects such as labeling solutions, warehouse systems, mobile applications, and GUI enhancements.
  • Perform IT support tasks, including computer preparation, workstation setup, and production line support.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and escalate complex problems as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational goals.
  • Actively contribute to a positive and collaborative work environment, demonstrating flexibility to adapt to evolving business needs and priorities.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Basic coding experience required; Python, HTML, and JavaScript experience preferred.
  • General understanding of computer systems, hardware, and networking fundamentals.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and protocols in manufacturing environments.
  • English proficiency required, with strong verbal and written communication skills.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Office Environment: 80%
  • Plant Environment: 20%
  • The employee must be able to tolerate sitting/standing for extended periods of time.  
  • It requires (Near/Far/Depth/Color) vision in order to be able to tolerate the eye strain associated with working on a computer throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to tolerate the use of a keyboard and mouse on average of 6 hours per workday.
  • While working in the Plant environment, the employee will be exposed to machinery, moving equipment and material, moderate noise, airborne particles, fumes, and various levels of temperature created by the manufacturing process.
  • This role operates in both office and warehouse environments within a manufacturing organization.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Prolonged standing at least 4 hours.
  • Lift objects weighing up to 35 pounds occasionally.

  • Communication & Collaboration: Communicates clearly with IT, engineering, and operations teams; works effectively in both independent and team-based environments.
  • Adaptability, Organization & Professionalism: Manages multiple priorities, adapts to changing business needs, demonstrates accountability, and maintains safety and compliance awareness in a manufacturing environment.
