We create a suite of integrated solutions for time management, resource planning, budget management, roadmapping, program management, reporting and more. We create the tech that enables the modern team to deliver – for every step from first vision to value.

Since our beginning in 2007 as a project to make a time-tracking tool to help a client – Tempo has expanded to become the #1 time management add-on for Jira, and we have developed and acquired a multitude of tools to become one of the most trusted names in the Atlassian ecosystem.

We want everyone to work better – but we also want to be a tech company with a heart. Join us as we continuously innovate our award-winning products, create new solutions, and help the world work smarter, not harder.

About the role:

As the Lead Architect, you will be one of the technical authorities for our product suite,

reporting directly to the VP of Engineering, Operations. You will be helping to lead the

architectural integrity of our products.

This is a “Technical Navigator” role for a visionary who remains deeply connected to the “engine room.” You will help lead the charge in modernizing our tech stack through

Modern Architecture Methodologies and establishing an AI-First initiative. This

includes both optimizing the developer experience through Claude Code and

architecting production-ready AI features directly into our customer-facing products.

What you’ll do:

● Architectural Leadership: Design and oversee highly scalable, secure systems

using Event-Driven Architecture (EDA) and AWS-native patterns.

● Product AI Integration: Architect and implement best practices for embedding

AI functionality into our products (e.g., RAG patterns, prompt engineering, and

LLM orchestration) to deliver smarter user experiences.

● AI Strategy & DevEx: Act as the champion for Claude Code. Define workflows

and best practices that enable developers to adopt AI for rapid prototyping,

refactoring, and automated testing.

● Atlassian Marketplace Expert: Master the Atlassian Forge

platform—navigating its capabilities and limitations—to build high-performance

integrations for Jira and Confluence.

● Operational Excellence: Partner with the VP of Engineering to align technical

roadmaps with operational goals,

Who you are:

● Experience: 10+ years in software engineering, with 3+ years in a dedicated

Lead Architect role for large-scale SaaS environments.

● Atlassian Ecosystem Mastery: Proven experience building on Atlassian Forge

and/or Connect, with a deep understanding of platform-specific constraints.

● Cloud Proficiency: Professional-level mastery of AWS, specifically the "Well-

Architected Framework," Serverless, and event-driven services.

● Technical Stack:

○ Backend: Advanced proficiency in Kotlin, Java (JVM), and Node.js.

○ Frontend: Expert-level understanding of React.

● AI Functional Expertise: Proven ability to build AI-driven features into

products, including knowledge of model selection, token management, and AI

security best practices.

● Modern Patterns: Expert knowledge of Event-Driven Architecture, message

brokers (Kafka/SNS/SQS), and distributed systems.

First 90 Days: Success Milestones

● Days 1–30 (Discovery): Audit current Marketplace apps and understand our

“Capabilities vs. Limitations” for our Atlassian Forge implementations.

● Days 31–60 (AI Strategy): Launch a structured “AI Best Practices” pilot for the

team using Claude Code and propose a roadmap for embedding new AI

features into our product UI.

● Days 61–90 (Implementation): Lead technical discussions between Atlassian

engineers and Tempo engineers to increase efficiency and scale our capabilities

while maximizing Forge performance. Lead our AI/logic processing using AWS in

a scalable, cost-effective manner.
