The LAT Dispute Specialist represents Gore Insurance at Ontario’s Licence Appeal Tribunal, managing complex Accident Benefits disputes within delegated authority. This role prepares and positions files for case conferences and hearings, assesses financial and reputational risk, and develops effective resolution strategies.

The Specialist partners with internal teams and external counsel, coordinates tribunal activities, and advocates on behalf of the organization while negotiating fair, timely settlements aligned with company philosophy.

In addition, the role provides coaching and guidance to claims representatives on complex files, monitors dispute trends, and supports continuous improvement in claims handling. A strong focus is placed on ensuring compliance with FSRA requirements and promoting fair, prompt, and good-faith claims practices.


What you will do:

  • ​​Review all assigned disputes in full, provide opinion, book case conference, prepare response and attend case conference 
  • ​Meet deadlines for all required submissions, file recommendations and hearing preparation 
  • ​Promote early resolution of issues and/or files were appropriate 
  • ​Develop strategies for fair resolution and closure of disputed benefits 
  • ​Evaluate, negotiate, and settle where appropriate disputed benefits
  • ​If issues fail to resolve, assign counsel and provide direction in alignment from claims leadership 
  • ​Participate in LAT roundtable discussion​
  • Ensure all claims handling adheres to Ontario's SABS regulations, Insurance Act requirements, and prescribed timelines for decisions and responses
  • Through the LAT process the LDS is required to assess risk and work towards maintaining defendable positions or settling disputes for best outcomes 
  • Review the actions of Adjusters on the AB team providing direct and indirect feedback on file handling, best practices and file handling strategies
  • Provide direct coaching to all levels of Adjusters and work with leaders to better refine AB claims practices

What you need to succeed:

  • Post secondary education is required
  • CIP designation is an asset
  • 10+ years of claims handling
  • 6+ years of AB Claims Handling Experience including some experience with CAT Loss
  • 5+ Years experience with LAT Handling process and achieving desirable file resolutions through Settlement Conferences 
  • Advanced dispute resolution
  • Moderate to Advanced litigation management for AB
  • Clear written and verbal communication, including negotiation/settlement advocacy
  • Sound judgment and decision-making informed by claim evaluation/investigation
  • Resilience and strong attention to detail in high-volume, time-sensitive disputes
  • Medical evidence review and injury assessment
  • Ontario AB dispute/litigation management (LAT), including strategy, motions, and hearing preparation
  • Expert knowledge of SABS and Ontario insurance regulatory requirements
  • Mentorship and coaching to strengthen claims and dispute-handling practices

The expected base salary range for this position is $67,000 - $117,000. Depending on your relevant experience, skills, qualifications, market conditions and business needs, base compensation may vary. You have the potential to earn more through Gore Mutual’s discretionary bonus program which gives you an opportunity to increase your total compensation, provided the business meets its performance targets and you meet your individual goals.

Please note: This range reflects the expected base salary for this role but may not represent the full compensation range for all experience and skill levels. During the recruitment process, we will discuss and consider how your unique qualifications align with the broader range for this position.
