Your role and responsibilities:
As part of the Lab Operations Team, you will be primarily involved in supporting various projects and sub-teams by expertly completing routine technical tasks on various machines and maintaining lab equipment. Such machines may include 3D printers, wire bonders, polishers and other key devices used in our R&D processes. You will also be part of a rapid response team for assisting with issues related to the lab and general facilities of Xanadu. As you gain experience in providing these services, you will be working towards improving and documenting their standard operating and maintenance procedures.
In addition to the above duties, you will also contribute to:
- Cleaning and organizing the lab
- Performing maintenance and upgrades on the machines/systems
- Helping to build and set up equipment (racks, tables, machines, etc.)
- Assisting teams with tasks (such as polishing, gold plating, soldering, etc.).
- Operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting building infrastructure systems, including plumbing, water systems, water chilling technology, and air compressors.

Basic qualifications and experience:
- College level Engineering Technician diploma or equivalent experience
- 2+ years experience working in a laboratory environment
- Experience with 2 or more of the following:
- Fiber splicing
- Wire bonding
- Chip polishing
- Flip-chip bonding
- Copper Polishing
- Soldering
- 3D modeling and printing
- Detail-oriented with a positive attitude towards work
- Able to work independently
- Highly motivated and eager to learn
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong writing skills for creating high-quality documentation
- Experience in a rapid growing environment where priorities can change quickly
- Strong problem solving skills
- Able to lift over 30lbs on occasion (when handling equipment and deliveries)
Preferred qualifications and experience:
- Experience with:
- CNC Machining
- Writing SOPs
- Basic mechatronics (reading wiring diagrams, overloads, safety controls)
- Cleanroom procedures
- Compressed air and vacuum systems
Please note that this position requires occasional weekend availability to assist with operational needs, particularly during emergency situations. Additionally, candidates should be open to a flexible schedule that may include one evening shift per week, typically ranging from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM or 9:00 PM.
This is for a new position. Your base salary will be determined based on your location, experience, and internal benchmarks. The base salary range is 70,000 - 90,000 CAD. You will also be eligible for equity and benefits.
