About the Position:

The Analyst 1 will be working with client samples providing preparation and analysis of these samples for routine inorganic chemistry parameters.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyze samples for analysis including drinking waters, wastewaters, and surface waters;
  • Organize workload to meet turn-around-times (TAT) and hold times and must be able to prioritize and multitask;
  • Perform routine maintenance and ensure that instrumentation is in good working order;
  • Assist in SOP updates and QA audits;
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new procedures;
  • Prepare a work list of samples, create work groups, data entry and data transfers;
  • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality (QA/QC);
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Must be capable of working with minimal supervision;
  • Must be well organized, and able to work independently as well as part of a team;
  • Experience running Continuous Flow Analyzer or similar instrumentation
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to understand and carry out detailed instructions.

Required Qualifications

  • Technical Diploma or Degree in Chemistry or related field;
  • 1 year + laboratory experience and are competent with aqueous and solid sample preparations/acid digestions, pH/conductivity meters, additional inorganic instrumentation.

Physical Demands

  • Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;
  • Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required;
  • Ability to stand for a full shift;
  • Ability to lift up to 30lbs and carry for short distances;
  • You may be exposed to unpleasant odours;

  • An estimated hourly pay of $23.61 CAD at the time of posting. Individual compensation is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.

Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.
