If you are trying to bridge the gap between making a tangible impact and building a viable, high-growth career, this field offers a unique sweet spot.

Indigenous Pathways is a paid, full-time, 9-month learning and development opportunity designed to support First Nations, Inuit, or Métis individuals in honing their professional skills at CBC. The program provides training within an all-Indigenous cohort, personalized career development, and hands-on work experience. No prior media production education or job experience is required to apply. The current program runs from October 2026 through June 2027.

One candidate will be selected to work with each of this year’s host teams. The position is based in Toronto with the Business and Rights team. Business & Rights works closely with programming areas drafting production contracts, negotiating rights and maintaining relationships with both internal clients, and external partners.  This is a fantastic opportunity for someone interested in learning more about the business side of the media production industry.

This is a full-time role utilizing a hybrid work model, allowing for both home and in-office collaboration as required. Please note that relocation costs are not covered.

This role is for you if you:

  • Are First Nations, Inuit, or Métis.

  • Have a deep interest in digital and video storytelling.

  • Are passionate about music, arts, and culture within your community or beyond.

  • Are eager to gain practical, hands-on experience at CBC.

  • Are a critical thinker who demonstrates strong ethics and integrity.

  • Are a collaborative communicator and team player.

In this program, participants will:

  • Develop essential skills and tools for a career in media.

  • Build meaningful relationships with mentors, trainers, peers, and Indigenous colleagues.

  • Gain valuable professional experience.

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

  • Eagerness to learn about best business practices of the broadcast industry

  • Interest in obtaining permissions for using third party content

  • Ability to perform administrative duties related to content licensing

  • Research skills

  • Attention to detail

  • Interest in working as part of a team

How to Apply

Ready to start your journey? Please submit your resume along with a cover letter that tells us a bit about yourself.

In your cover letter, please answer:

  • Why do you want to be part of the Indigenous Pathways program?

  • Why are you interested in working in the media, particularly on the business side?

  • What hobbies, volunteer work, or cultural activities are you passionate about?

  • Do you have any knowledge around how content licencing works? (Don’t worry, you don’t have to!)

Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.

We thank all applicants for their interest, but only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.

As part of our recruitment process, candidates who advance to the next

step will be asked to complete a background check. This includes:

  • A mandatory Criminal record check.

  • Other background checks may be conducted based on the operational requirements of the position.
