EDA’s signature Earth Observation mission, the EarthDaily Constellation (EDC), is currently under construction. EDC will be the most powerful global change detection and change monitoring system ever developed, capable of generating unprecedented predictive analytics and insights. It will combine with the EarthPipeline data processing system to provide unprecedented, scientific-grade data of the world every day, positioning EDA to meet the growing needs of diverse industries.
OUR TEAM
Our global, enterprise-wide team represents a variety of business lines and is made up of business development, sales, marketing and support professionals, data scientists, software engineers, project managers and finance, HR, and IT professionals. Our Wildfire & Forest Intelligence team is nimble and collaborative, and in preparation for launching a frontier and disruptive product in EDC, we are currently looking for a Jr. Software Engineer to join our crew! This is a Canada-based position, open to candidates working remotely within Canada or in-person/hybrid out of our Vancouver head office. All candidates must have an existing work authorization to work in Canada.
PREPARE FOR IMPACT!
As a Jr. Software Engineer, you will be working with our Earth Observation (EO) team to help build and develop pipelines to assist in feeding Earth Observation data into our AI wildfire model, Value-Added Products and internal system/services.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Define, design, implement, test, debug, deploy and evolve pipelines related to our AI wildfire model.
- Conduct and participate in technical and interface discussions, design reviews, code reviews and feature verifications with other team members.
- Participate in sprint planning, sprint closure, sprint demos, sprint retrospectives, and product roadmap planning.
- Minimum 1+ year work experience in a software engineering role (can include coop, internship or career experience)
- Experience with developing software within a cloud-based environment (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Experience with Agile software development and SCRUM processes
- Experience with remote sensing data including both passive and active sensors as well as meteorological and climate data
- Familiarity with common concepts in remote sensing
- Experience in GIS and/or optical or synthetic aperture radar (SAR) remote sensing an asset
- Excellent analytical, problem solving, debugging, and troubleshooting skills
- Excellent skills in at least one programming language (e.g Python, C++)
- Good object-oriented and test-driven design skills
- Self-starter and self-learner attitude with the ability to manage and execute with minimal supervision
- Ability to take initiative, commit, and thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environmen
- Algorithmic and analytical problem-solving skills
- Python development skills an asset

Hours of work typically fall between 9:00am and 5:30pm ET, Monday to Friday, with periodic cross-over work required with other team members across a few times zones in addition to occasional evening and weekend work. Team members must be available for a minimum of 6 hours daily during this period to facilitate collaboration.
YOUR COMPENSATION
Base Salary Range: $76,000 to $95,000 CAD annually. This range is based on Vancouver, BC-derived compensation for this role and may differ for other geographies. The selected candidate's compensation will be determined based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, education, and location.
