The Opportunity

PICTON Investments is presently seeking a dynamic Intern, Data Engineer with a passion about Asset Management to join our Digital Product team for an 8 month internship. The Intern will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in data transformation projects while supporting various business stakeholders across sales, investment, portfolio management, operations, compliance, HR, and marketing.

The expected hourly pay range for this internship position is $20.00 - $32.00. The final compensation offered within this range will be determined based on factors such as relevant education, skills, experience and internal equity.

You will have the opportunity to learn and lead:

• Assist in building and maintaining ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) or ELT
• Help automate data ingestion from multiple sources (APIs, databases, flat files, etc.).
• Support the implementation of data validation and quality checks.
• Work with data engineers and analysts to clean, structure, and transform raw data into usable formats.
• Write SQL or Python scripts to merge and transform datasets.
• Collaborate with different teams to understand data needs.
• Document workflows, data dictionaries, and processes.

What you bring:

• Currently pursuing in an undergraduate degree in STEM programs (Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Business or any other related discipline).
• Technical Proficiency: Understanding of SQL and experience with data modeling. Familiarity with Python, R, or other scripting languages is a plus.
• Data Pipeline Knowledge: Familiar with the concepts of ETL/ELT.
• Database Experience: Exposure to relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB) and understanding of data warehousing solutions (e.g., Redshift, Snowflake).
• Cloud Experience: Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, particularly in relation to data storage (S3, BigQuery, etc.) and computing services.
• Data Visualization & Analysis: Any familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Looker, Power BI).
• Problem Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to learn quickly and work independently.
• Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical teams.
• Team-Oriented: Collaborative and able to work well in a dynamic, fast-paced team environment.
