Job Posting

Sick of commuting? Tired of “hybrid” jobs that are really “in office” jobs in disguise? If you’re discovering that you’re more productive at home than in an office, and want to make that arrangement permanent, we may have the position you’re after.

At CarriersEdge, we’re focused on producing great quality products and happy customers. We don’t care about being the coolest company in town, having the most amazing office perks, or the hippest staff. If you’re interested in those things, you’ll hate us.

On the other hand, if you’re not looking for a social group and just want to do great work, then you may be exactly what we’re looking for. We don’t care where you work and we won’t be looking over your shoulder micromanaging you. You’ll have minimal meetings disrupting your week, and plenty of time to focus on doing the best job possible. We’re growing quickly, but not so quickly that things are chaotic.

As part of that growth, we’ve got an opening for an Instructional Content Writer and Editor.

The ideal candidate has a keen eye for detail, a solid foundation in the skills outlined below, and a passion to continually improve those skills. This isn’t an agency where you’ll get buried under endless client projects, a marketing job where you're writing sales pitches, or contract writing position churning out blog postings.

We’re serving an industry undergoing massive transformation and we need great storytellers who can produce well-researched, accurate, and engaging content to support people through that transformation.

About you

  • You love long-form writing and enjoy all stages of the process, from research to editing.
  • You have a proven ability to turn complex material into easily understood content.
  • You have extensive experience with research and looking at regulations doesn’t make you cringe.
  • You’re able to collaborate effectively as part of a team, but also comfortable completing work on your own.
  • You have extra-sharp communication skills and you’re not afraid to ask questions.
  • You are willing to occasionally travel to and participate in industry events.
  • You can’t stand bad Spelling or Grammar. The incorrect use of capitals in the previous sentence is driving you crazy right now.
  • You’re eager to learn a new industry and are not afraid to learn new tools for content development.

Your typical week

Day to day, you will work with other content writers to develop course material on subjects relating to regulatory changes, human resource topics, and other task-specific skills for the transportation industry.

You will be responsible for the comprehensive outline, storyboard, final test and audio script and will work with translators, graphic designers and voice-over artists to bring the words to life in a final online form using CarriersEdge proprietary tools.

In a normal week, you will spend time researching the subject matter for your current topic, writing storyboards and content, participating in reviews with senior team members, and assembling the various components into a finished product. Through the research-organize-write-review process, your stories will continue to evolve until they create an engaging narrative that can be applied to real world activities.

As part of a remote team, you will connect with team members across the company through Slack, email, and Zoom.

You’ll participate in occasional in-person meetings, attend industry events, and visit customer sites to oversee photoshoots in support of your content creation. You’ll track activities in weekly status reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • At least 6 years of experience with long-form writing in a professional capacity (e.g., technical writer or educational material/course developer)
  • Demonstrated ability to research subject matter and create stories that include accurate information and details
  • Demonstrated ability to tell a story through your writing that doesn’t rely on regurgitated bullet points
  • Expert knowledge of spelling, grammar and writing style, and the ability to use Microsoft Word styles, tables, tracking and other advanced features
  • Excellent attention to detail, so please find a way to mention soup in your cover letter
  • Ability to adapt your workflow to fit established processes
  • A portfolio of your work. You must be able to produce samples of your past work or projects that demonstrate your skills to be considered for this position.
  • You reside in Canada

Additional notes

  • Principals only, no recruiters please.
  • This role has a salary range of $60,000–$80,000 annually. Actual compensation within this range will be based on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location.
  • CarriersEdge provides an inclusive workplace, welcoming and encouraging people of all backgrounds and abilities to apply. Accommodations are available upon requests for candidates taking part in all aspects of the selection process.
