About This Role

The HSE Specialist will be responsible for supporting Health, Safety and Environmental practices (HSE) program for the 3 facilities in Brampton, ensuring compliance with Provincial and Federal regulations. This role ensures compliance with local regulations while aligning with global safety and environmental standards. The HSE Specialist will play a critical role in promoting a culture of safety, sustainability, and environmental responsibility throughout the facility.

Key Responsibilities And Accountabilities

Health & Safety Program Management:

  • Maintain comprehensive safety policies, procedures, and best practices aligned with provincial legislation and global corporate safety standards.
  • Maintain regular risk assessments, site audits, and hazard identification to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Maintain and Coordinate emergency preparedness plans, including fire drills, evacuation procedures, and first-aid training.

Compliance and Reporting:

  • Ensure compliance with the State Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and other applicable regulations.
  • Maintain accurate safety records, track safety performance metrics, and prepare periodic reports for HSE Manager.

Environmental Management:

  • Maintain environmental policies and programs to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, including waste management, emissions control, and energy efficiency.
  • Support HSE Manager on environmental impact metrics, such as carbon footprint, water usage, and hazardous materials management.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental laws and standards, such as the Environmental Protection Act (EPA).
  • Act as the primary point of contact for HSE-related inquiries, fostering a culture of safety and environmental responsibility among all staff.
  • Deliver training programs on workplace safety, environmental regulations, and sustainability practices.
  • Develop and deliver engaging HSE training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors. 
  • Facilitate onboarding.
  • Collaborate on monthly JHSC meetings, inspections, and audits.

Incident Management and Prevention:

  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain detailed records of all safety and environmental incidents, ensuring proper reporting and follow-up actions.

Collaboration and Reporting:

  • Provide regular updates and reports on safety and environmental performance, initiatives, and compliance to HSE Manager.
  • Act as a key liaison between facilities ensuring smooth communication and consistency.

Essential Qualifications, Experience, And Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • JHSC certificate is an asset.
  • First Aid certificate is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Safety Management software and tools is an asset.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in health, safety, and environmental management, preferably in a Industrial, Manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and environmental regulations.
  • Experience with sustainability initiatives and corporate environmental responsibility programs.
  • Strong knowledge of risk assessment, incident investigation, and environmental compliance.

  • Proficiency in data analysis and HSE reporting tools.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and locations effectively.

  • Proactive problem-solving and decision-making skills.

  • High attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and cultural sensitivity skills to navigate global collaboration.

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.

  • Strategic thinking with the ability to translate global safety directives into local operations.

 

Compensation: $75,000 - $85,000
