Job Description

Canroof Corporation Inc. is currently seeking a 12-month Contract HSE Coordinator to join our team of skilled professionals based at our Toronto, ON Plant. Our manufacturing plant produces premium roofing shingles in a high speed, continuous, asphalt shingle manufacturing process environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure training matrix is up to date, create a monthly training schedule, and support/guide supervisors on providing the training
  • Update employee STOP card and Field Level Risk Assessment inputs and compliance
  • Review HSE related KPI's in order to target areas of improvement
  • Ensure corporate and site specific programs and procedures are developed and implemented, such as industrial Hygiene monitoring programs
  • Liaise with plant staff on health, safety and environmental issues
  • Oversee contractors and activities during on-site projects to ensure compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations in addition to all H&S site requirements
  • Complete daily Work Permits as required
  • Meet and update with the site HSE Specialist on a daily basis
  • Update and monitor Corporate and Site Pandemic procedures and compliance
  • Assist with Pandemic screening process and plan updates
  • Printing and marking of HSE testing, and ongoing updating of records
  • Weekly and monthly checks on safety equipment (eyewash stations, showers, etc.)
  • Be an active participant in the JHSC meetings
  • Contractor orientation – as needed
  • Other site duties may be assigned by the HSE Specialist (i.e. WHMIS (GHS) inventory and updates), Site safety maps update, etc.)

Qualifications, Skills and Education:

  • Working towards a Bachelor's degree or Diploma in occupational health and safety from accredited University or College
  • A minimum of one (1) year health & safety experience – preferred
  • Excellent organization and analytical skills
  • Strong communication (written, verbal, presentation) and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to establish priorities and work effectively in a team
  • Excellent working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point), SharePoint, etc.
  • Strong technical writing skills to be able to create documents for an adult learning audience
  • Strong commitment to the Health and Safety and the Environment

Preferred Experience:

  • Knowledge of health, safety and/or environmental legislation will be an asset
  • Prior experience in an industrial manufacturing environment would be an asset
  • Ability to read and interpret safety and environmental legislation
  • Should be comfortable to wear personal protective equipment including safety shoes, safety glasses, hard hat, gloves and mask.
