The Head of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is accountable to lead and scale our AI and Machine Learning (ML) initiatives. This strategic leadership role is responsible for building practical solutions on top of foundation models to create custom solutions and products, deploy agentic frameworks and setting the technical roadmap, architecture, and standards for all AI-driven products and services. The role will drive innovation, build and mentor high-performing engineering teams, and ensure that our AI capabilities deliver significant business impact and competitive advantage.Responsibilities:
Technical Roadmap: Define and communicate the long-term technological vision, strategy, and architecture for integrating Generative AI into the company's core workflows and products. Plan the models and frameworks to be used across the ecosystem.
Agentic Framework Architecture: Architect and deploy multi-agent systems where AI agents autonomously execute complex tasks, reducing manual operational loads
Innovation: Identify emerging AI technologies, trends (e.g., Generative AI, LLMs, Agents), and research breakthroughs, assessing their potential for business application and competitive differentiation.
Budget & Resources: Manage the department's budget, resources, and technology stack, making strategic build vs. buy decisions and ensuring efficient cloud utilization.
Platform Leadership: Oversee the development and maintenance of the scalable, reliable, and secure LLMOps and Agentic platforms that facilitate the rapid deployment, monitoring, and iteration of production solutions (focused on solution delivery vs ‘research paralysis’).
Standards & Governance: Establish technical best practices, coding standards, data quality requirements, and ethical AI guidelines to ensure responsible and trustworthy AI development. Provide guidelines to internal teams, and internal consultancy to kick start development of solutions against enterprise frameworks
System Scalability: Direct the engineering teams in designing AI systems for the appropriate scale, latency, and availability, integrating them seamlessly into core product and internal infrastructure.
Team Building: Recruit, hire, mentor, and coach a world-class team of AI Engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and technical excellence.
Cross-Functional Alignment: Serve as the primary technical interface between the AI team and product leadership, data science, and core engineering, ensuring technological choices align with business priorities.
Performance & Delivery: Oversee the execution of multiple complex AI projects, ensuring timely delivery, adherence to quality standards, and measurable business outcomes.
Required Skill Set:
8+ years of tech experience, preferably with real use of AI/ML and GenAI
Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
Deep, hands-on experience designing and deploying Machine Learning or GenAI solutions in a production environment, specifically within a major cloud platform (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
Exceptional leadership, management, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence executive-level stakeholders.
Expert understanding of modern AI architectures, Deep Learning frameworks (PyTorch/TensorFlow), and distributed computing technologies.
Salary Range: $145,000 - $165,000 CAD
