In this role, you will be the primary technical bridge between ABB ELDS Grid Components and our OEM, Distributor, and other Channel customers. Each day you will provide hands-on application engineering support; reviewing customer designs, recommending optimal grid component selections, and resolving technical challenges—so that our customers can bring their products to market faster and with confidence. You will also leverage your product marketing knowledge to shape the go-to-market strategy and ensure ABB Grid Components are specified as the preferred solution across all target design segments. This role is heavily focused on Medium Voltage.
The work model for the role is: Hybrid

This role is contributing to the ELDS Grid Components business within Central/Eastern Canada.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing day-to-day design support and application engineering guidance to OEM, Distributor, and Other Channel customers specifying ELDS Grid Components in their designs. 

  • Reviewing customer schematics, layouts, and BOMs to ensure correct grid component selection, application, and derating. 

  • Developing application notes, reference designs, and training materials that accelerate customer design cycles and increase design-win rates. 

  • Managing and resolving technical escalations in a timely manner, coordinating across R&D, Quality, and Product Management. 

  • Tracking design-in opportunities from initial customer engagement through to production qualification and maintaining pipeline visibility in the CRM system. 

  • Collecting and providing market and competitor intelligence analyses to inform product roadmap and marketing strategy decisions. 

  • Monitoring market trends and recommending improvements to marketing strategy and plans to meet evolving OEM and channel market requirements. 

  • Delivering product training and workshops to Distributor partners and OEM engineering teams. 

  • Driving continuous improvement on Net Promoter Score (NPS) by acting on customer feedback. 

Qualifications:

  • You are highly skilled in Medium Voltage Switchgear and Medium Voltage Apparatus such as Breakers, Breaker Enclosures, Load Break Switches, Instrument Transformers, Grounding Switches, Disconnect Switches, Sensors, Short Circuit Limiting devices, Arc Mitigation devices, and Protection relays, and their application in OEM and Industrial switchgear design. 

  • You have approximately 10-15 years of experience in a Field Application Engineering role, Technical Sales, or Product Marketing Specialist role within the electrical distribution components industry. Medium voltage is is a must.

  • You have demonstrated experience supporting OEM or Distributor customers through the full design cycle, from component selection and design review to production qualification. 

  • You possess strong knowledge of design tools, electrical simulation software, power and short circuit analysis software, and component selection methodologies used in OEM product development. 

  • You are passionate about solving complex engineering challenges and delivering an outstanding customer experience. 

  • You are captivated by market and competitive dynamics and can translate technical insights into compelling customer value propositions. 

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent demonstrated experience). 

  • Proven ability to present and communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both engineering and non-engineering audiences. 

  • You are able to travel up to 50% of the time, mostly within Central/Eastern Canada 

  • You hold current Professional Engineering designation (PEng.)  and are able to travel to US, Europe and Asia when required.

While base salary is determined by things such as the successful applicant’s qualifications and experience, this position is expected to pay between $103,500 and $130,000 annually + bonus and benefits.
