Job Summary

This is an entry lever role for the purpose of training a general machinist while they are working in the field. The role will have the associate machining parts and components critical the daily running of the plant as part of the daily maintenance of the machinery.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

 Assists in reading and interpreting drawings and work process documentation.

 Assist in Cutting, shaping and machining various materials to tolerance based on provided drawings or samples.

 Assists in performing various work in process measurements to maintain tolerances.

 Works with Maintenance to accommodate repairs and redesigns of parts for production machinery.

 Assists in setting up and operating machine shop equipment (Lathe, mill, surface grinders etc.)

 Assists in updating existing drawings to match changes in parts or designs.

 Participates in and contributes to the continuous improvement process. Adheres to all workplace safety policies, compliances and regulations.

 This position will require the associate to be enrolled in trade school as part of their apprenticeship.

 Performs other duties as required.

Nature and Scope

  • Selects correct processes from clearly prescribed rules, past practices, or instruction. Seeks advice and guidance on non-routine or problem areas from supervisor. Deviations from the norm are cleared by the supervisor.

  • Under close supervision, exercises limited latitude/independent judgment. Work typically involves detailed checks or close review of output by a senior coworker and/or supervisor.

  • None.

Work Environment

  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

  • Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

  • Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

Education and Experience

  • HS Diploma or GED strongly preferred. 0-2 years of experience in area of responsibility.

Preferred Qualifications

 Minimum first year apprentice in Machining, Millwright, Tool & Die or Pre-Apprenticeship in the same trades.

 Strong attention to detail, accuracy and safety

Solid written and verbal communication skills

 Ability to read basic blueprints and drawings

 Proficient in accurate measuring using different tools (i.e., Calipers, inside/outside micrometers etc.)
