 Some of what you will do: 

The FP&A Manager is responsible for the consolidation and reporting of the B2C financials, including Store P&L model. The Manager will oversee and drive the planning, forecasting, and reporting of retail operation expenditures (store and field labour, rent & occupancy, repair & maintenance, supplies, etc.) across Staples Canada. The manager will primarily be supporting senior leaders across numerous departments such as Retail Workforce Planning, Operational Excellence, Facilities Management, Real Estate, HR, and Field Services on strategic planning, budgeting, and forecasting to drive business results and cost control. Drives, tracks and supports management of quarterly and yearly targets. Continuously identifies and recommends all necessary actions to improve the financial performance and efficiency of the business. Participates in the strategic business planning for the organization. Manages and mentors FP&A analyst, providing guidance and coaching on financial reporting, modelling and analysis in support of company objectives. 

 

Specifically, You Will:  

  • Oversee and support all cost centres including communicating deadlines and expectations with business partners, works with individual partner to determine proper month end accruals and update forecast 

  • Direct the business performance & planning functions including labour, rent, and general & administration cost analytics 

  • Build, maintain, and oversee the full cycle budget and forecast process including, but not limited to, retail and field resource planning, base rent, retail opex, software licenses and subscription planning, etc. 

  • Build and maintain financial models in support of Store P&L reporting 

  • Liaise with various departments, such as but not limited to, National Ops, cross function FP&A teams, Accounting, IT, etc. 

  • Support the development of strategy and the 5-year long range plan model · Review month-end variance analysis and commentaries vs budget and forecasts  

  • Mentor / manage to FP&A Sr. analyst and/or analyst  

  • Ensure high employee engagement at every level through effective motivation, coaching, training, and development of associates on the team  

  • Actively lead and/or participate in various process and system improvement initiatives, special projects and ad hoc analysis.  

  • Develops actionable management reporting to provide insights into performance, variances, drivers and key business trends  

  • Provides accurate and timely reporting of all key financials and metrics  

  • Creates and reviews analysis and reports of financial and operating data 

 

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: 

  

  • Hybrid environment 

 

Some of what you need: 

  • University degree (B.A.) with commerce/business administration focus or equivalent in work experience is required.  

  • Completion of a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or MBA preferred.

  • Exceptional financial analytical ability skills preferably developed in a retail environment.

  • 2 to 3 years experience as a FP&A Manager or similar role, successfully leading and managing a team through budgeting and planning cycle 

  • Experience in retail, particularly multiple-location/national and multi-channel retail is an asset.

  • 10+ years of broad based operational finance experience with progressive responsibility and a strong focus on FP&A.

  • High proficiency using Microsoft Office programs, primarily Excel, Word and PowerPoint mandatory and experience in building Excel Macros is preferred.

  • Ability to interpret large amounts of financial and non-financial data and summarize it to present meaningful information to various levels of management 

  • Proficiency in Power BI and SQL are strong assets, but not required.
