Job Description:

The Sun Life Health (SLH) business within Sun Life Canada is a leading provider of Group Benefits and Health Solutions. A market leader in the advancement of workplace mental health across Canada, through the introduction of new tools such as Virtual Care and Stress Management and Well-Being program providing members access to mental health and medical specialists 24/7. SLH is seeking a Financial Analyst to join its fast-paced and energetic Finance team. 
 
Reporting to the Manager, Financial Controls, the Financial Analyst will play a crucial role in executing and supporting control activities critical to the Sun Life Health business. 

 

What will you do? 

  • Prepare account reconciliations ensuring they are accurate, complete, informative and meet Sun Life account reconciliation standards.   

  • Identify, investigate, and resolve differences in reconciliations in collaboration with business partners. 

  • Support internal and external audits.  This includes supporting retrieval of audit sample requests and participating in walkthrough meetings to discuss control processes. 

  • Validate, improve, and document key business processes and controls; seizing on opportunities to transform current manual high volume and/or complex functions. 

  • Participate in projects and ad-hoc requests as needed. 

 

 What do you need to succeed?  

  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in reconciliations, financial reporting and/or internal controls.  

  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office tools (including Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint). 

  • A passion and willingness to understand accounting flows from source-to-ledger and relate accounting to business processes and transactions. 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills. 

  • Self-motivated, results-oriented and flexible to changing priorities and timelines. 

  • Proven technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills. 

  • This role requires Reliability Status Clearance. In addition to a law enforcement inquiry and a credit check, as part of your application, the Government of Canada will ask if you lived or travelled outside of Canada for 6-consecutive months during the last 5 years, and you must account for all activities during this time.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience with Frontier (or other reconciliation tools), SAP .

  • A CPA, other designation or diploma/degree in accounting is considered an asset. This role can be reported under the CPA experience verification pathway.

    The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
