Job Summary
The Financial Analyst II role will support finance operations within the Medicine Department at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. This role reports directly to the Finance Business Manager.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Financial Analyst to support day-to-day accounting and financial operations in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing journal entries, performing reconciliations, analyzing financial data, and supporting month-end and year-end reporting processes. This role also involves managing invoicing and accounts receivable activities, ensuring accurate recording and allocation of OHIP and other payments, and collaborating closely with internal stakeholders, including the billing office and external software providers. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, excellent attention to detail, proficiency in Excel and ERP systems, and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Duties
- Prepare and post journal entries, including high-volume batches, with supporting schedules for key accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance;
- Perform monthly and quarterly reconciliations, investigate variances, and maintain accurate financial records;
- Analyze financial data and trends to support reporting and explain fluctuations;
- Prepare financial reports, month-end reconciliations, and resolve discrepancies in ERP systems and Excel;
- Support year-end processes, including working papers, audits, and independent reviews
- Manage invoicing and accounts receivable processes, including recording payments and ensuring accurate allocation to outstanding balances
- Work closely with the billing office and billing software provider to ensure individual and group OHIP payments are recorded accurately and in the appropriate reporting period;
- Identify accounting issues and process improvements to enhance efficiency;
- Provide bookkeeping support for assigned programs, ensuring accurate tracking of financial transactions and allocations
- Assist with cross-functional tasks, as assigned or requested, including providing back-up support for other financial analysts (i.e. perform AP duties, bank reconciliation and related banking transactions, prepare bank deposits)
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
- 2–5 years of progressive experience in an accounting or finance environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret financial data, identify discrepancies, and recommend solutions
- Experience preparing and analyzing financial reports and reconciliations
- Proficiency in Excel and ERP systems (e.g., SAP or similar)
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to maintain confidentiality
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams
- Proactive mindset with the ability to identify process improvements
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Experience in a healthcare environment is an asset
