ISS is hiring! Our Canadian Research Team is seeking an executive compensation analyst to join our Toronto based team. The executive compensation analyst will be primarily responsible for all compensation, benefits and equity plan proposal policy development, interpretation and policy application for proxy analyses in the Canadian market. With the introduction of shareholder advisory votes on executive pay in Canada, there continues to be increased shareholder focus on all of the various elements of executive compensation arrangements.
This analyst role is responsible for reviewing policies and procedures on executive and director compensation, maintaining a full understanding and knowledge of ISS’ proprietary compensation models and methodologies, and reviewing analyses with compensation and benefits related issues. The analyst also aids other research analysts and clients with inquiries regarding compensation. The analyst will also be responsible for applying Canadian corporate governance policy and completing analysis for all corporate governance related issues for an assigned set of core company meetings in a deadline driven fast paced environment. This role includes contributing significantly to projects and supporting completion of non-core analysis, non-meeting research and client service efforts as required.
Responsibilities:

Be a resident subject matter expert for Canadian Research staff in all areas of compensation and benefits, with a specialized focus on executive pay versus company performance.

Analyze high profile/contentious proxy statements with executive compensation issues.

Complete written analyses detailing ISS vote recommendations and rationale for general corporate governance items as well as compensation issues. Support research staff in their analyses and review staff’s work with ISS' proprietary compensation models and other quantitative methodologies, as well as qualitative analytical content.

Lead or participate in policy formulation relating to executive compensation.

Answer client and company inquiries and explain ISS' compensation policies and methodologies as necessary.

Interface with technology to ensure that Canadian Research has the tools to run all quantitative methodologies and that procedures are accurate, thorough, and up-to-date.

Train research staff on executive compensation policies and methodologies as needed.

Support compensation related data collection growth and efficiency.
Qualifications:
-
Degree in business or economics or equivalent experience; compensation related professional designation of CCP or CEP preferred

At least 2 years of experience in executive compensation and benefits with a major corporation or consultant

Ability to understand and work with compensation modeling programs

Strong understanding of financial and operational performance

General knowledge of corporate governance standards and expectations in the market

Strong analytical, verbal and written skills
