Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Technology Architect to provide technical information architecture and solution design expertise in support of large-scale infrastructure modernization initiatives. This role involves conducting comprehensive architecture assessments, developing solution designs, preparing architecture documentation, and supporting infrastructure transformation projects. The successful candidate will collaborate with stakeholders, technical specialists, infrastructure teams, and service providers to ensure high-quality solution delivery and alignment with enterprise standards.

Project Overview

This infrastructure modernization initiative will:

  • Transition application databases from legacy Solaris infrastructure to supported platforms.
  • Upgrade Oracle database software where applicable and compatible.
  • Reduce operational, security, and financial risks by decommissioning unsupported infrastructure following successful migrations.
  • Support broader technology modernization objectives through a high-priority transformation program.

Applications within scope will remain functionally unchanged, with no new development activities. The focus is on operating system and database platform migration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Document and design current-state ("as-is") solution architecture.
  • Prepare and present solution blueprints and architecture designs using Microsoft Visio.
  • Lead and/or participate in complex technical architecture reviews, assessments, development initiatives, and support projects.
  • Conduct architecture assessments to support evolving enterprise priorities and business needs.
  • Complete architecture documentation required for governance and approval processes.
  • Ensure architecture solutions align with organizational policies, standards, and industry best practices.
  • Provide infrastructure guidance, including networking considerations.
  • Lead and support technical architecture investigations and analysis activities.
  • Develop technical architecture specifications for vendors and service providers.
  • Create detailed technical documentation for deployment, operations, and support.
  • Work closely with technical specialists to ensure adherence to approved architecture and design standards.
  • Oversee infrastructure provisioning activities with internal service providers.
  • Collaborate with application owners to identify and define solution architecture requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with technical teams, stakeholders, and business partners.

Required Skills & Experience

Technical Architecture & Solution Design

  • Extensive experience developing solution architectures and technical designs.
  • Strong ability to document architecture artifacts and technical blueprints.
  • Experience conducting architecture reviews and assessments.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Visio for architecture documentation.

Infrastructure & I&IT Expertise

  • Strong understanding of enterprise infrastructure environments.
  • Experience with on-premises hosting environments and cloud technologies.
  • Knowledge of networking principles and infrastructure design.

Governance & Documentation

  • Experience producing architecture documentation to support governance and approval checkpoints.
  • Ability to ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture standards and best practices.

Leadership & Analytical Skills

  • Strong project leadership capabilities.
  • Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working on complex infrastructure transformation initiatives.

Communication & Stakeholder Management

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with technical teams, business stakeholders, vendors, and service providers.

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Experience with architecture and design within the Ontario Public Sector (OPS).
  • Experience documenting and designing current-state solution architecture and preparing solution blueprints using Microsoft Visio.
  • Experience leading complex technical architecture reviews, assessments, development initiatives, and support projects.
  • Experience completing architecture documentation required for governance processes.
