About the Role

We’re hiring an Engineering Manager for Platform to lead Float’s Infrastructure and Developer Experience (DevEx) teams. This group is responsible for the reliability, scalability, and usability of Float’s engineering systems, ensuring teams can ship safely, efficiently, and with confidence as we scale deeper into financial services.

This role sits at the intersection of infrastructure, reliability, and developer productivity. You’ll unify infrastructure and DevEx into a cohesive platform function, eliminate friction across engineering workflows, and raise the bar on uptime and operational maturity.

This is a hands-on leadership role, with an expected 50/50 split between technical contribution and people leadership.

Key ResponsibilitiesPlatform Leadership & Strategy
  • Lead and evolve a unified Platform organization spanning infrastructure, SRE practices, and developer experience.

  • Define the platform vision, roadmap, and success metrics in partnership with Engineering leadership.

  • Balance near-term reliability needs with long-term platform investments.

Reliability & Infrastructure Excellence
  • Own platform reliability, uptime, and operational health as Float scales into banking-grade systems.

  • Establish and mature SRE practices including monitoring, alerting, incident response, and postmortems.

  • Drive adoption of Infrastructure as Code and automation across the stack.

Developer Experience & Enablement
  • Build internal tooling, workflows, and abstractions that reduce cognitive load and accelerate delivery.

  • Identify and remove friction across CI/CD, local development, deployment, and production workflows.

  • Act as a strong advocate for engineers by deeply understanding how teams build and ship software.

Hands-On Technical Leadership (50%)
  • Contribute directly to infrastructure, automation, and platform code.

  • Review designs and PRs with a focus on reliability, scalability, and operability.

  • Partner closely with Product and Application Engineering on platform needs.

People Leadership (50%)
  • Coach and develop platform engineers across infra and DevEx disciplines.

  • Build strong operating rhythms, clarity, and accountability.

  • Foster a collaborative, pragmatic culture grounded in ownership and continuous improvement.

Required Skills and Experience
  • Experience leading infrastructure, platform, SRE, or DevEx teams.

  • Strong technical depth across cloud infrastructure (AWS), networking, and distributed systems.

  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or similar).

  • Experience designing and operating highly reliable production systems.

  • Strong empathy for developer workflows and productivity challenges.

  • Ability to contribute code and guide technical direction.

  • Excellent communication skills and cross-functional collaboration experience.

  • Experience operating in regulated, reliability-sensitive, or high-scale environments is preferred.

You’ll Be Great in This Role If You:
  • Enjoy building platforms that empower other engineers.

  • Care deeply about reliability, clarity, and operational excellence.

  • Balance pragmatism with long-term thinking.

  • Are comfortable being hands-on while leading others.

  • Prefer collaboration over control.

  • View platform work as leverage, not overhead.

This Role Won’t Be a Fit If:
  • You prefer “don’t touch it if it works.”

  • You strongly favor a single language or toolchain.

  • You dislike operational ownership or incident response.

  • You prefer feature work over foundational systems.

Why You Should Join
  • Work at one of Canada's fastest-growing fintech companies

  • Make a real impact in a high-autonomy, high-growth role

  • Collaborate with an ambitious and supportive team

  • Competitive compensation, equity options, and benefits

  • Hybrid work model – we are based in Toronto with in-office days for connection and collaboration

  • Enjoy catered team lunches every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday

  • Bring your pup to our dog-friendly office

  • Thrive in a high-trust, high-performance culture where your work truly matters

In Short

At Float, you’ll thrive if you’re bold, curious, and eager to make a real impact. We're building something special—and having a lot of fun along the way. If you’re excited to build, grow, and win together, we’d love to meet you.

We’re committed to building a workplace that’s welcoming and accessible for everyone. If you need any accommodations during the hiring process or once you join Float, just let us know! You can reach out to Vic ([email protected]), and we’ll work with you to make sure you have what you need to succeed.
