Job Description:

Primary Purpose

The position serves as an educational development resource for faculty and academic partners, providing expertise in teaching, learning, course design, assessment, and educational technologies. The role supports the development of effective, inclusive, and evidence-informed teaching practices through consultation, faculty development programming, applied research, and participation in institutional teaching and learning initiatives.

Key Accountabilities

Pedagogical and Instructional Support

• Advise instructors on course design, assessment, and teaching practices using established frameworks and best practices

• Support the application of pedagogical approaches across a range of disciplines

• Guide instructors in aligning learning outcomes, activities, and assessment strategies to support course design

• Provide consultation and practical guidance on teaching and learning practices, approaches, and resources.

• Adapt and tailor teaching and learning resources and tools to meet instructor and program needs

Faculty Development

• Organize/Develop and Lead University-wide workshops and training sessions on core teaching and learning topics

• Provide one-on-one and small group consultations to instructors to support teaching development?

• Contribute to faculty development programming through the design and facilitation of learning experiences for instructors.

• Contribute to the systematic evaluation and enhancement of learning offerings to ensure effectiveness, relevance and impact.

Course and Courseware Design

• Guide the development and revision of course materials and assessments

• Provide consultation and support to instructors on the effective use of learning management systems and educational technologies to enhance teaching and learningIntegrate inclusive and accessible design principles into initiatives in collaboration with academic partnersParticipate in course design projects, contributing subject matter expertise in teaching, learning, and educational development.

Research and Evidence-Informed Practice

• Apply established teaching and learning research to practice

• Engage in applied research and evaluation activities to support continuous improvement and evidence-informed decision-making Perform data collection, analysis, and reporting

• Stay current with emerging trends in higher education pedagogy

Recommends best practices and supports continuous improvement through the integration of research, evaluation findings, and sector trends

Projects and Institutional Initiatives

• Contribute to projects and institutional initiatives related to teaching and learning

• Support implementation activities, including resource development and coordination

• Participate in working groups and collaborative initiatives

• Track progress and provide updates on assigned work

Collaboration and Supervision

• Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

• Collaborate with colleagues to support the achievement of team and organizational objectives.

• Serve as a resource to peers on complex or specialized matters related to the role.

• Provide guidance, coaching, mentorship and support to colleagues, fostering independence, professional growth, and effective problem-solving.

• Provide direction and support to co-op students, junior staff, or other team members, as assigned.

• Participate in leadership development opportunities and ongoing professional learning.

• Contribute to a positive, collaborative, and inclusive work environment through knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications

Education

• Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Education, Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Higher Education, or related discipline) or equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience

• 4-6 years of experience in educational development, instructional design, or teaching in a post-secondary environment

• Experience applying established pedagogical principles in course or curriculum design

• Experience supporting or advising instructors in a developmental or consultative capacity

• Experience facilitating workshops or training sessions

• Teaching experience at the post-secondary level is an asset

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Strong understanding of teaching and learning principles in higher education

• Effective communication and interpersonal skills

• Workshop facilitation and presentation skills

• Organizational and project coordination skills

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

• Proficiency with learning management systems and educational technologies

• Awareness of disciplinary contexts and inclusive teaching practices
