Job Overview
Applied Systems, Inc., a worldwide leader in insurance technology, is currently searching for a Director, Software Engineering who will be responsible for all technical aspects of our Applied Pay software development life cycle. You will lead and manage a team of engineers and work closely with product managers, architects, and other business leaders to ensure successful product development. What You'll Do

  • Provide technical leadership to our team of engineers by leading the architecture and design of our solution, establishing, and executing development plans, standards, and processes.
  • Partner with architects to design and implement scalable and sustainable software solutions.
  • Collaborate with other product management to develop and implement product development goals, strategies, and objectives.
  • Develop and implement processes to ensure timely delivery of high-quality software. Fully own the quality of the software that is pushed to production.
  • Manage and mentor engineers to ensure technical excellence, personal growth, and performance improvements.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate technical risks and issues during the development process.
  • Manage software development budget within established financial guidelines.
  • Participate in the recruitment and hiring of new engineers.


What You'll Need to Succeed
We're looking for someone who:

  • Can work hybrid from our Toronto office
  • Ability to travel up to 25%


Your experience should include some or all of the following:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
  • Proven ability to manage, lead and mentor high-performance teams of engineers.
  • Deep knowledge of software development methodologies, Agile/Scrum, and Cloud/Platform Engineering practices.
  • Strong experience in developing and delivering enterprise-grade software solutions.
  • Proven track record in delivering software projects on time and within budget.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with other business leaders, architects, and product managers.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with cloud technologies, ideally GCP.
  • Experience with microservices, and containerization.
  • 10+ years of software development experience, with 5+ years of leadership experience in a SaaS company.
