About the role

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Director, Finance to lead and oversee our finance function and serve as a key partner to the CFO and senior leadership team. This role is responsible for the overall financial operations, reporting, controls, planning, and continuous improvement of the finance function, while ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the company’s financial information.

The Director, Finance will provide strong technical and operational finance leadership, translating financial data into meaningful business insights and recommendations. This is an ideal role for a seasoned finance professional who thrives in a collaborative environment, is comfortable owning the finance function day-to-day, and takes pride in building scalable, reliable, and efficient financial processes.

The role will work closely with the CFO and cross-functional leadership to support business planning, budgeting, forecasting, financial decision-making, and long-term organizational growth.

This is an active leadership role, with a preference for onsite work in Richmond Hill, ON, though remote candidates based in Canada may also be considered.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Leadership, Operations & Reporting
  • Lead and oversee the day-to-day operations of the finance function, ensuring financial processes, controls, and reporting are accurate, timely, and effective.
  • Own the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial statements and management reporting.
  • Prepare and review management accounts, financial statements, variance analyses, and financial reports for the CFO and senior leadership.
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and chart of accounts within Sage Intacct.
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash flow management, bank reconciliations, and other core accounting operations.
  • Manage payroll processing coordination and ensure compliance with payroll obligations.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant tax filings, regulatory requirements, and statutory deadlines.
  • Establish and maintain strong financial controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity.
  • Monitor financial performance and proactively identify risks, trends, and opportunities that may impact the business.

Financial Planning, Analysis & Business Partnership
  • Act as a strategic finance partner and trusted advisor to the CFO and senior leadership team, translating financial information into clear business insights and recommendations.
  • Lead and support the annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes, working with business leaders to develop realistic assumptions and financial targets.
  • Prepare financial models, analysis, and business cases to support strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Provide regular analysis of actual performance against budget and forecast, identifying key drivers, risks, and opportunities.
  • Develop and monitor key financial and operational metrics to provide leadership with greater visibility into business performance.
  • Prepare materials, reporting packages, and briefings for the CFO and senior leadership team.
  • Flag financial risks, discrepancies, and emerging issues proactively, providing clear context, recommendations, and potential solutions.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to improve financial understanding, accountability, and decision-making across the organization.

Team Leadership & Development
  • Directly manage, mentor, and develop the junior team member, providing leadership, coaching, and day-to-day guidance.
  • Review financial work and reporting for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to established processes.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for complex accounting, reporting, and financial matters.
  • Develop the capabilities of the finance team through coaching, knowledge sharing, process documentation, and ongoing development.
  • Build and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for key finance processes.

Systems, Controls & Process Improvement
  • Serve as the finance business owner and primary power user of Sage Intacct.
  • Collaborate with the Technology team to implement system enhancements across Sage Intacct, Salesforce, and other systems supporting Finance workflows.
  • Evaluate opportunities for automation and integration to reduce manual processes and improve the quality and availability of financial data.
  • Ensure financial controls are established, documented, and consistently followed.
  • Liaise with external accountants, auditors, tax advisors, and other financial advisors as required.
  • Support audits, tax reviews, and other external financial or regulatory requirements.
 
What we are looking for:

Required Qualifications
  • 7+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including experience in a senior finance leadership or management role.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge, with a solid understanding of financial reporting, controls, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Hands-on experience with Sage Intacct or a similar ERP, including financial reporting and system administration.
  • Proven experience leading, mentoring, and developing finance team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with the CFO, senior leadership, and cross-functional stakeholders to support business decisions.
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills, with the ability to turn financial data into clear, actionable business insights.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders and operate effectively at both a strategic and operational level.

Nice to Have
  • Experience working in a mid-sized or growing organization with broad finance responsibilities.
  • CPA, CMA, or equivalent professional designation.
  • Experience optimizing Sage Intacct workflows, reporting, integrations, or financial processes.
  • Experience with financial systems integration, automation, or process transformation.
  • Background in the Technology or Professional Services industry.
  • Experience building and scaling finance processes to support organizational growth.
