Position Overview:
We’re hiring an Engineering Director to lead a team of 10–20 engineers building scalable, production-grade systems. This is a newly created role reporting to the SVP of Engineering. It combines hands-on technical leadership with strategic oversight—you’ll set direction, elevate engineering standards, and drive delivery.
This is a hybrid role based in our Markham, Ontario office.

  • Modernization: meaningful progress moving the platform off legacy patterns toward a modern, cloud-native architecture

Key responsibilities
  • Leadership & Team Building: Lead and grow a team of 10 to 20 engineers across North America and India, fostering a high performance collaborative culture across time zones.
  • Technical Leadership: Own architecture and system design across the stack. Drive delivery of Brcomplex, distributed systems on AWS. Stay close enough to the code to make sharp technical calls and mentor engineers on craft.
  • Cross-Functional Impact: Partner with product and business leaders to translate strategy into technical roadmap. Drive alignment across teams and influence technical strategy.
  • Delivery & Execution: Own delivery against the product and platform roadmap. Improve engineering velocity through process, tooling and best practice.
  • Engineering Excellence: Raise the bar on code quality, testing, and operational excellence. Build strong observability and incident response practice. Leverage modern AI tools to improve productivity and quality.
What You’ll Bring
Minimum Qualifications
  • At least 7 years of software development experience, with 3+ years leading a team. This includes hiring, performance management, and developing senior engineers
  • Deep technical background in Java and Angular (or a comparable modern frontend framework such as React or Vue)
  • Solid experience with Oracle, Postgres, or similar relational databases, including schema design, performance tuning, and the hard parts
  • Working experience with NoSQL databases (e.g. DynamoDB, MongoDB, Cassandra) and a clear sense of when to reach for them
  • Production AWS experience across compute, networking, and data services
  • Ability to comprehend and contribute to systems design, including scalability, reliability, trade-offs, and failure modes
  • Demonstrable use of AI tools in the software development lifecycle, such as coding assistants, agentic workflows, code review, and test generation. You should be able to show concretely how you and your teams ship faster and better with AI
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience modernizing legacy Java systems, multi-region AWS deployments.
Education
  • BSc/BA in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

Compensation
Good faith annual salary range for this position is $190,000 to $200,000 CAD and is commensurate with experience and location.
