Reports To: VP Finance
Location: North America (Hybrid)
Team: No direct reports

Role Summary

The Director of Corporate Accounting manages the consolidation, reporting, and systems data landscape for a multi-entity corporate group operating in Canada and the U.S. You will lead consolidations, multi-jurisdictional tax compliance, and technical accounting. Additionally, this role acts as the functional owner of the group’s financial technology, participating in the implementation of an electronic data warehouse for unified financial and statistical reporting, while establishing robust access management protocols for key financial systems.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You will operate at both strategic and execution levels, ensuring audit readiness, controlled working capital, and consistent margin reporting across agencies.

Core Mandate

  1. Deliver consolidated financial statements within the established group close calendar, with a business day five target as entity close processes mature
  2. Provide expertise on technical accounting matters
  3. Oversee global group taxation and manage the relationship with the group’s external advisors
  4. Responsibility for administration of core financial systems
  5. Mentor a growing team of accountants in an indirect relationship

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Consolidations

  • Manage the month-end, quarter-end, and annual financial consolidation for 10-15 corporate entities.
  • Oversee multi-currency consolidations, intercompany eliminations, and translation adjustments between CAD and USD.
  • Prepare accurate, timely consolidated financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses for senior leadership and the Board of Directors.
  • Serve as the primary contact for external auditors, managing the annual audit process and supporting audit readiness and the timely resolution of findings and control deficiencies.

Financial Data Warehouse

  • Participate in designing, implementing, and maintaining an electronic data warehouse (EDW) to centralize financial, operational, and statistical data.
  • Define finance requirements for standardized data collection, mapping pipelines, and extraction methodologies across all entities to ensure a "single source of truth."
  • Partner with IT and operations teams to translate complex accounting structures into robust relational data models and automated reporting dashboards.
  • Ensure the data warehouse supports historical archiving, multi-period audit readiness, and quick data retrieval for M&A due diligence.

Financial Systems & Access Management

  • Serve as the primary business owner for the group's key financial systems and ERP platform.
  • Design, implement, and manage a user access management framework, ensuring strict Segregation of Duties (SoD) across all entities, in partnership with IT and system administrators.
  • Periodically review system access permissions to comply with internal controls, corporate governance, and data privacy regulations.

Group Taxation (Canada & US)

  • Oversee cross-border tax compliance, including corporate income tax filings, GST/HST, PST, and QST in Canada, and federal, state, and local tax filings in the US, coordinating filings with internal teams and external advisors.
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors and CPAs on transfer pricing documentation, permanent establishment risks, and nexus studies.
  • Manage indirect tax reporting and ensure compliance with multi-state and multi-provincial tax regulations.

Technical Accounting & Policies

  • Research, interpret, and implement new accounting standards under applicable accounting standards.
  • Develop, document, and maintain comprehensive corporate accounting policies and internal control procedures across all group entities.
  • Provide technical accounting guidance on complex transactions, including business combinations, asset acquisitions, and revenue recognition.

Leadership & Process Improvement

  • Provide functional leadership, mentorship and technical guidance to corporate accountants and controllers through a matrixed relationship.
  • Streamline the consolidation and reporting workflow using modern ERP and consolidation software.
  • Partner with operational leaders and FP&A to align financial reporting with strategic business goals.

Qualifications

  • CPA (US or Canada required)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 7-10 years progressive accounting experience
  • Experience in marketing agency, media, or professional services
  • Strong multi-entity consolidation background
  • Deep understanding of project-based revenue accounting
  • Exposure to corporate taxation in both Canada and the U.S.
  • Experience acting as a finance functional owner for an ERP, consolidation, reporting or data transformation initiative
  • Ability to provide functional leadership and influence outcomes in a matrixed environment

The anticipated annual base salary range for this position is $150,000–$175,000. Individual compensation within this range is determined based on job-related factors such as experience, skills, level of responsibility, internal equity, and business needs.
