Who We Are

SWTCH is pioneering EV charging solutions for multifamily and commercial properties across North America. Since 2016, our team of entrepreneurs, energy professionals, and technologists has been focused on unlocking the social, economic, and environmental benefits of widespread EV adoption. Today, our solutions are deployed in tens of thousands of locations —many of which are low-to-moderate income housing—helping to make clean mobility accessible for all.

With an expanding footprint across Canada and the U.S., we’re scaling quickly and looking for mission-driven talent to help accelerate our growth.

The Opportunity

SWTCH is looking for a highly motivated DevOps Engineer to join our growing tech team. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, you will design, build, and optimize our AWS container platform, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code tooling. This is a collaborative role: you'll work closely with development and operations teams to streamline deployment, testing, and software delivery, and help lead our path to push-to-deploy continuous delivery.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain our AWS ECS platform (Fargate and ECS on EC2), along with our existing EC2 and Docker Compose hosts.
  • Manage CI/CD pipelines on GitHub Actions, improving reliability and build speeds and moving us toward push-to-deploy with feature flags, canary or blue-green deploys, and automated rollback.
  • Collaborate with Development and Architecture teams to build highly available cloud environments, including our Traefik-based OCPP edge and self-hosted Redpanda streaming platform.
  • Build and extend our toolchain, including AWS (ECS, Fargate, Secrets Manager, Parameter Store), OpenTofu, and shell scripting, with Checkov, tflint, and plan checks on every PR.
  • Maintain and enhance automation tooling and deployment infrastructure in line with SOC 2 best practices.
  • Identify parts of the architecture that lack redundancy and improve reliability, including supporting our MySQL to Postgres migration.
  • Build monitoring, alerting, and tooling (Vector, Grafana, VictoriaMetrics, OpenTelemetry) that surfaces front-end and back-end issues as soon as they happen, including per-service SLOs and burn-rate alerts.
  • Write and maintain clear documentation for infrastructure and processes.

Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience in DevOps, release engineering, or build automation, including 3+ years with large-scale distributed infrastructure and client-server architecture.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS ECS (Fargate and/or EC2), Docker, and container technologies in a microservices environment.
  • Experience deploying and managing infrastructure as code with OpenTofu or Terraform.
  • Strong experience with AWS and cloud infrastructure automation.
  • Experience with CI/CD (ideally GitHub Actions), continuous testing, and monitoring and alerting tools such as Grafana and Prometheus-compatible metrics (e.g., VictoriaMetrics).

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Kafka-compatible streaming systems such as Redpanda or Kafka.
  • An AWS certification. If you don't have one yet, we're happy to sponsor your exam.
  • Experience working in a SOC 2 environment.

Benefits
  • Business Impact - As a member of the Engineering Team, you have the opportunity to take a supporting role and make a significant impact on the culture and values of the company.
  • Environmental Impact - We are a clean energy company with a mission to reduce carbon emissions globally to ensure a clean and sustainable future.
  • Diversity - People develop their talents and skills in different ways. We value different paths and experiences. If you think you meet the qualifications we are seeking, take a chance and express your interest here.
