About the Role
Prepares 3D math data, working layouts and typical sections of automotive components, assemblies and systems from engineering specifications, instructions and prior layouts. With moderate direction from engineering and senior design personnel, assists in the implementation of design components and systems within operational, cost, timing, safety, reliability, quality, and manufacturing feasibility parameters
Your Responsibilities

  1. Develop product design criteria, math models per OEM requirements.
  2. Create internal part drawings, tool drawings, mylars, layouts etc. in support of the Engineering Department or other departments as required. Perform numerical CFD (occasionally FEA) analysis, review results, optimize the design to reduce real-life trial and error and enhance product robustness.
  3. Support Engineering staff in modifying math data, reviewing sections, printing data etc. Support and oversee trials or production line activities as required, ensuring effective implementation of design modifications, and addressing any issues that arise during these processes.
  4. Manage and document changes in extrusion processes, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records of modifications and facilitating effective change management practices.
  5. Forward and implement ideas for scrap reduction, productivity improvements, VA/VE, specs proposals, etc. Prepare presentation packages for new and existing programs.
  6. Participate in design review meetings and any other reasonable duties as requested by Management


Who we are looking for

  • Post-Secondary Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred with strong technical background.
  • Product design (3 - 5 years of diversified design experience) or equivalent work experience.
  • 2 - 3 years minimum experience in the automotive industry; hands-on experience is an asset.
  • Strong working knowledge in CAD / CAM (eg., SolidWorks, Mastercam etc) and CFD /FEA analysis (eg., ANSYS, COMSOL etc) are definite asset.
  • Strong background in fluid dynamics, heat transfer and CFD analysis.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Well-developed communication, organizational, interpersonal and analytical abilities
  • Sound computer skills, including knowledge of software in current use
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing, an asset
