What it’s like to be a Data Modeler (Contract) at Northbridge Financial

We are seeking an experienced Data Modeler/architect with deep domain expertise in Property & Casualty insurance to design, develop, and maintain enterprise data models that support Policy, Claims, Underwriting, Risk, Regulatory and Premium data structures. The ideal candidate will bridge business and technical teams, translating complex insurance business requirements into robust, scalable, and well-governed data models that power analytics, reporting, and downstream systems.

Success in this role requires a well-rounded mix of technical expertise, business insight, and interpersonal effectiveness, together with the ability to distinguish organizational processes from the technologies used to facilitate them.

If you are great at:

  • Designing and developing conceptual, logical, and physical data models for P&C insurance domains, including Policy, Claims, Underwriting, Risk, and Premium data.
  • Collaborating with business stakeholders, actuaries, underwriters, BA/BSA and claim teams, gather and translate business requirements into data model designs.
  • Creating and maintaining entity relationship diagrams (ERDs), data dictionaries, and metadata documentation.
  • Establishing and enforcing data modeling standards, naming conventions, and best practices across the organization.
  • Working closely with data engineering teams to deliver data models and semantic layers that support analytics and reporting across data warehouses, data lakes, and cloud platforms
  • Performing data profiling, applicable mapping, and gap analysis across policy administration, claims, and underwriting source systems.
  • Supporting the design of dimensional models (star/snowflake schemas) for reporting and analytics use cases.
  • Ensure data models align with industry standards and frameworks.
  • Working closely with data governance teams to ensure data quality, lineage, and compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., IFRS 17).
  • Reviewing and validate models to ensure scalability, performance, and alignment with enterprise architecture principles.
  • Supporting migration and modernization initiatives, including legacy system decommissioning and cloud data platform adoption.
  • Leverage AI-assisted tools to accelerate model design, generate documentation, and automate data dictionary/metadata creation/validation for accuracy.
  • Supporting solution/data architects by reviewing data integration designs, data mappings, and transformation logic to ensure alignment with enterprise data architecture standards.
  • Ensure Enterprise data flow diagrams are up to date.

If you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems or a related study — or equivalent project-related experience.
  • 5–10 years of hands-on experience in data modeling, data architecture, or senior data engineering roles.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication.
  • Ability to work independently and lead data modeling initiatives.
  • Knowledge of CSIO and ACORD industry frameworks.
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL (popular variants).
  • Experience with Data Modeling tools.
  • Experience in Services Oriented Architecture, Object oriented models, canonical data models and XML.
  • Experience in databases - SQL Server, Oracle and Snowflake.
  • Experience in Metadata Management tools and Data Quality tools.
  • Prior experience supporting policy administration system implementations or migrations (e.g., Guidewire, Duck Creek).

We’re committed to pay transparency and fairness. The hourly rate range for this role is 80-90 $/hr which reflects the expected base pay – not the total compensation package. The actual rate may vary depending on your experience, skills, and alignment with the position.
