The Corporate Legal Assistant is responsible for drafting and reviewing legal documents, conducting legal research, managing litigation files, ensuring compliance with court rules, and coordinating small claims proceedings. We’re in search of an experienced Corporate Law Clerk to join our team in Brampton, CA. The Legal Assistant will have an immediate and lasting impact on our operations, guiding us toward positive outcomes with comprehensive legal research, document creation, and database maintenance.
Responsibilities:
- Draft, review, and prepare court documents including statements of claim, statements of defense, affidavits, notices of motion, and factums ensuring compliance with court rules and procedures
- Prepare and file legal documents with various courts, ensuring adherence to filing deadlines and court requirements
- Organize and maintain physical and electronic litigation files, including correspondence, pleadings, and evidence
- Draft comprehensive factums for various court proceedings, incorporating relevant case law, statutes, and legal arguments
- Research and analyze legal precedents and statutory provisions to support factum arguments
- Ensure factums meet court formatting requirements and submission guidelines
- Manage small claims court files from initiation to resolution
- Prepare all necessary documentation for small claims proceedings
- Schedule and coordinate small claims court appearances
- Assist in discovery preparation and document management
- Coordinate with process servers for document service
- Monitor and maintain litigation calendars and deadlines
- Prepare trial materials and exhibits
- Assist in witness preparation and coordination
- Conduct legal research using various legal databases and resources
- Summarize case law and prepare legal memoranda
- Post-secondary education in the legal field.
- A minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a Paralegal or Corporate Legal Assistant is required.
- Having a paralegal license is considered a definite asset
- Paralegal experience is required.
- Previous experience in transportation industry is considered an asset
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office with aptitude to learn new software quickly
- High level of detail orientation and interpersonal skills
