The Role
Our Global Corporate Communications team communicates to the world Block's purpose of economic empowerment and the need for our businesses to create tools to help expand access to the economy for our diverse audiences of sellers, individuals, artists, fans and developers.
We are looking for an accomplished Corporate Communications Specialist, focusing on Issues Management, to join the Corporate Communications team, which protects and advocates for Block's brand globally. You will develop and execute communications strategies that help us navigate through complex and high-stakes situations, including crises, regulatory matters, and reputational risks. You will step into an important role, requiring the ability to manage sensitive communications, anticipate issues, and communicate with partners internally and externally.
Reporting to the Head of U.S. Corporate Comms, you will work with executives and teams across Block, including within our brands (Square and Cash App), finance, investor relations, legal, product government relations, people, marketing and more. We ask that you have creativity, and the ability to change course quickly and perform in high-stress situations.
You Will

  • Develop systems for early warning signs and potential reputational risks.
  • Collaborate with teams to develop and implement comprehensive communications strategies for managing issues and crises.
  • Prepare strategic communication plans, messaging, and responses for sensitive topics.
  • Be an important contact during crises, working with senior leadership to ensure transparent and effective communication.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of our overarching communications strategy, ensuring alignment with our goals.
  • Craft and refine important corporate messages, positioning us as an industry leader and trusted brand.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including media, regulators, customers, and employees.
  • Handle media inquiries related to sensitive issues and provide spokesperson support.
  • Draft statements, media responses, and external communications that reflect our point of view and position on corporate issues.
  • Monitor industry trends, media coverage, and regulatory environments to identify emerging issues that could affect us.


You Have

  • A Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) and 8+ years of experience, either at a PR agency or on an in-house communications team
  • Experience handling high-pressure communication situations, including crises
  • Experience managing media relations and serving as a spokesperson
  • Ability to anticipate potential issues before they become crises
  • An understanding of corporate reputation management and partner engagement.

The successful candidate's starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
