About the Role

WeaveGrid is seeking a Commercial Counsel to lead its commercial legal activities.  WeaveGrid’s Commercial Counsel will own negotiations with utilities, automakers, EVSEs, vendors, and other third parties, while partnering closely with the WeaveGrid team across deals and other critical legal topics.  You will be WeaveGrid’s second in-house lawyer, and will help build the legal department, with an emphasis on integrity, business outcomes, and client service.  This position reports to the General Counsel & VP Administration.

This position may be worked remotely or out of WeaveGrid’s San Francisco office.

Responsibilities

  • Lead negotiations with utilities, automakers, EVSEs, government agencies, and other third parties, partnering closely with WeaveGrid teams including business development, client success, program operations, finance, and information security.
  • Draft and revise contracts, amendments and change orders for SaaS, data and data services, consulting services, and other products and services.
  • Draft and revise statements of work for  SaaS, data and data services, consulting services, and other products and services.
  • Engage with state and federal agencies regarding grant opportunities and contracting. Government contracting experience a plus.
  • Draft and negotiate vendor agreements and DPAs.
  • Oversee legal operations for commercial contracting.  Manage the contract lifecycle from initial requests to contract approvals and filing. 
  • Own and iterate WeaveGrid’s contract playbooks.
  • Support compliance with the California Consumer Privacy Act and other state data privacy laws.
  • Advise on WeaveGrid product development and compliance with applicable laws including CAN-SPAM and the TCPA.
  • Depending on experience and bandwidth, support other legal workstreams such as product counseling, HR, insurance and other matters.

About You

You are a mission-driven lawyer committed to integrity, supporting team members, and building a business.  You are comfortable in a startup environment where things move quickly, both planning and flexibility are needed, and initiative is critical.  You can balance multiple projects while being detail-oriented.  You are prepared to implement best practices and lead by example.

Qualifications

  • Experience drafting, revising, and negotiating complex agreements, including but not limited to SaaS.
  • Experience (preferred) and/or interest in engaging with utilities, automakers and EVSEs, and government agencies.
  • Experience (preferred) and/or interest in managing the full contract lifecycle.
  • Track record of partnering with internal stakeholders to drive deals to fruition.
  • At least 4 years of combined in-house, law firm, or government legal experience.
  • J.D. and member of at least one state bar.
  • Familiarity and/or strong interest in the electric grid, climate, and climate technology.

The total compensation for this opportunity includes a base salary range of $125,000-$190,000, plus equity (stock options) and benefits. This is our target compensation range and is subject to multiple factors, including role, level, experience, and location. As you go through our interview process, our recruiter will work with you to identify a competitive base salary within the proposed range and combine it with an equity package to get you excited about your future at WeaveGrid.
