We are a dynamic API and Integration team, responsible for designing and developing cutting edge API and integration solutions across diverse domains, including retail payments, financial crimes and AML integrations, cards, and lending. Leveraging the AWS technology stack, we build scalable and secure APIs to enable seamless integration between applications and drive innovation. With a team of 40 talented professionals, we are seeking a skilled solution architect to work across these domains providing expertise in API design and integration solutions to help shape the future of our platform.

Leads and facilitates the design and implementation of repeatable technical solutions and processes related to technology architecture. Defines and documents efficient and transparent architectural principles, standards, and guidelines regarding the proper use and deployment of business applications, data, and technology within the Bank. Partners with broader internal stakeholders to define architectural possibilities and futures. Works with business and development teams to recommend processes or system design enhancements. Ensures that systems are functionally appropriate, technically sound, and well-integrated. Provides immediate response to critical production program-wide problems to evaluate solutions, coordinate applicable recovery, and ensure resolution.

• Acts as a thought leader in development, builds deeper relationships with key stakeholders, and demonstrates expert-level skills in coding across multiple languages, LOB's, and/or technology areas.
• Reviews and approves requirements and design for a domain.
• Provides strategic input into business decisions as a trusted advisor.
• May network with industry contacts to gain competitive insights and best practices.
• Has expert knowledge to influence and set corporate direction for software development practice, concepts, technology, and methodology.
• Manages resources and leads the execution of strategic initiatives to deliver on business and financial goals.
• Acts as the prime subject matter expert for internal/external stakeholders.
• Monitors and tracks performance and addresses any issues.
• Ensures code is reviewed, reusable and testable, meeting architectural-design and customer requirements, accountable for overall code quality.
• Leads workshops to develop solutions from a program perspective in association with all interdependent systems.
• Decomposes business requirements and translates them into detailed design specifications and code.
• Interacts with key business & technology stakeholders to define, analyze, and deliver requirements that reflect the needs of both the business and end-customers.
• Assesses the costs and benefits for different solutions and recommend/decide on appropriate designs.
• Designs solutions, writes code, performs unit testing, develops appropriate artefacts / documentation, and facilitates final delivery.
• Supports production issues, includes independently completing root-cause analysis and diagnosis.
• Devises new algorithms and data structures for target environment and platform attributes in alignment with architectural patterns.
• Builds solutions that are supportable, scalable and achieve our aspiration of common assets.
• Recommends or automates approaches to streamline and integrate technological processes and/or systems to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.
• Supports the management of specific project deliverables & outcomes.
• Identifies opportunities to strengthen the development capability, such as: sharing expertise to promote technical development, mentoring employees, building communities of practice and networks.
• Stays abreast of industry technical and business trends through participation in professional associations, practice communities & individual learning.
• Operates at a group/enterprise-wide level and serves as a specialist resource to senior leaders and stakeholders.
• Applies expertise and thinks creatively to address unique or ambiguous situations and to find solutions to problems that can be complex and non-routine.
• Implements changes in response to shifting trends.
• Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications:

• BS/BA or MBA/MS in computer science, engineering, information systems, math or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Corporate professional experience as a Cloud Solution Architect, building technology capabilities and cloud technology solutions in enterprise environment.
• Expert knowledge of AWS cloud computing platforms from development to deployment.
• Strong solution design experience leveraging microservice, event driven and cloud native architectures.
• Should have sound experience designing and architecting the following Cloud Services
  • CDK & TypeScript, NodeJS, Python, Terraform
  • Code pipeline, CICD, Build/Deploy
  • API Gateway, Lambda, Step Functions, SQS, SNS,
  • AWS EMR, Glue, S3, ELK / OpenSearch 
  • RDS, DynamoDB, DocumentDB, Neptune & Data Migration Service
  • EC2, S3, IAM, Secrets Manager, System Manager, Cloudwatch, EventBridge, Cognito
  • Nice to have: AWS Sagemaker Studio (ML), Docker & Containers
• Demonstrate understanding of business processes and business requirements as well as the architecture patterns and development best practices.
• Experience in building highly scalable solutions leveraging Java/Node.js/Go/Python.
• Seasoned professional with a combination of education, experience, and industry knowledge.

Salaried

The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
