As an Audit Underwriting Consultant, you will primarily focus on performing internal underwriting audits, analyzing risks, maintaining positive relationships, writing reports, and contributing to the development of junior underwriters. As an Audit underwriting consultant is a dual role where you will focus majority of your time on performing internal audits. There will be some productivity targets to maintain consistency in evolving processes or procedures within the department. More specifically, you will be required to: 

  • Perform internal underwriting audits and recommend areas of improvement, and gaps in underwriting risk management, processes and procedures based on the underwriting audits results and your experience

  • Analyze a risk, identify key details, and write a summary of the elements that impact the risk involved

  • Maintain positive relationships and act in partnership with customers, underwriters, and other partners through different means of communication

  • Establish the rate of excess mortality or morbidity by consulting the company's different sources of reference

  • Write various reports, correspondences, recommendations and provide advice in implementing these recommendations

  • Participate in the development of junior underwriters and help achieve the department priorities and objectives

  • Collaborate in the search for continuous improvement in relation to activities related to processes and work in collaboration with peers

  • Engage in continuous learning, follow industry trends and progress.

What you bring to the table

  • Bachelor's degree in businessor in a related field

  • A minimum of four years of relevant experience

  • Please note that other combinations of qualifications and relevant experience may be considered

  • Experience performing Underwriting Audits

  • Experience with MGA market outside of Quebec

  • Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI), Academy of Life Underwriting (ALU) or Fellow, Academy of Life Underwriting (FALU) designations or other relevant designations recognized by the industry

  • Knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec

  • Knowledge of reinsurance and understanding and applying treaties

  • Knowledge f financial underwriting

  • Intermediate advanced proficiency of English due to the nature of the duties or work tools or because the position involves interactions with English-speaking partners, members and/or clients
